Class Struggle on a Pluralist and Feminist Frontline

CPF Congress 4 June 2016
Political Report of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Finland to the
To the Party Congress

CLASS STRUGGLE ON A PLURALIST AND FEMINIST FRONTLINE

For the working class, Finnish society is nowadays developing at the beck and call of big money and big business. The political elite and influential parties in Parliament have either bent to the logic of the market economy or have simply given it a blank cheque. What’s worrying from the viewpoint of working women and men is that even the parliamentary Left and the Greens have time and agan been uncritically willing to join government colaitions, even though it means continuing with cuts similar to those we experience now. Not one of the influental parties in Parliament has clearly distanced itself from policies continuing the transfer of incomes from the poor to the rich. This is because the name of the parliamentary game is to get into government at any price whatsoever.

If we put the countries of the world in order of GDP, we see that Finland is ranked somwehere in the top 25, together with Belgium, the UK and Oman. According to a report in Metro newspaper, Norway is the world’s happiest, richest and healthiest country. Finland is ranked ninth among the 10 happiest countries. The indicators used in the rankings use things like GDP and the numbers of people in work. It covers 142 countries. At the bottom we find Afghanistan, Iraq and Yemen.

From the perspective of the working class, prosperity in Finland is distributed unevenly. Globally, the 62 richest people own as much as half the world’s population. According to an Oxfam report, the gulf between rich and poor is fast accelerating.

Last year, some 350 000 asylum seekers crossed borders into Europe. The ratio of asylum seekers coming to Europe to the size of the EU’s 500-million population is 0,07% (January-October 2015). This 0,07% is termed – depending somewhat on who’s talking – a ’wave’ or a ’surge’. It’s actually really only a small ripple.

Wars cause deprivation and anguish, in addition to economic turmoil. According to the UN, the largest numbers of refugees have been from Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan.

In addition to the economic misery, deprivation and fears are caused by wars. In recent years, the United States alone has been fighting and continues to fight in Afghanistan (2001 -), Iraq (2003-2011), Pakistan (2004-), Libya (2011) and then in Syria, Iraq, Libya and Nigeria (2014-). It is specifically because of war that people are forced to flee their homes and seek refuge elsewhere.

COOPERATING WITH OTHERS WANTING CHANGE

The CPF has proposed a policy of cooperation with a wide range of Left and Green forces. Our policy idea is based on cooperation with different forces for change. We cannot and do not want to build a new society by ourselves. A new society will be the result of working together. And clearly this means that we cooperate with different mass movements. In working and acting against the government of Prime Minister Juha Sipilä we have been able to see that cooperation specifically againist the government’s austerity policy has been productive. This cooperation has brought thousands of protestors onto the streets in Finland. The masses of protestors – collective power – have not come onto the streets by dint of Marxist analysis or class-consciousness. Many have come to protest because the hand of right-wing policy has sneaked into their wallets and the lack of basic social security, health services and education is such that they cannot just sit quietly alone at home.

We are in a situation in Finland where right-wing policy has brought young people especially out onto the streets who previously cared little for politics. Finnish youth follow what’s going on in the world. We have had a wave of mass left protest that was born of the progressive initiatve of our French comrades to remain in the Place de la Republique following the protest against the government’s labour law. Instead of returning home they launched a mass gathering that continues to this day.

In Finland, a group of influential figures in cutures and arts and young people in the Collective Power network who have become politicised identified with this nuit debuit – night rebellion movement of French and some other Europeans and have since started once a week to organise a progressive action in the current new way – openly in the centre of the city among all the arts, culture and community facilities.

99 % POWERED

We have a valuable experience of three years back. At that time the small parties in Parliament were in the ’rainbow’ coalition government. Then, too, there was resistance to unequal income distribution and capitalism, not just in Europe but globally. In Finland, there was also action in the name of the Occupy movement that convened activities throughout the winter. We called it the ‘marketplace movement’, and its symbol was a hurricane lamp. In the tents of the markeplace movement folk learnt about and debated various social issues. As communists we had our own place there too. In addition to providing the marketplace movemnet with firewood, we brought to it discussion on class-consciousness and Marxist perspectives. Amidst all the activity of the marketplace movement I remember being amazed at how Left Alliance activists had kept away from the action. The reason for this split was the Left Alliance’s participation in the government coalition. The same reason applies to its avoidance of more conspicuous involvement in the peace movement. From the perspective of citizen action, government work and social responsibility are mutual negatives. Now that both left parties, the Social Democrats and the Left Alliance, are no longer in government they exhibit renewed courage in civic participation; the peace movement has held a united protest against war games, cultural and arts workers have come out against the government’s new definition of artists as entrepreneurs, while pensioners and students have held mass actions against government policy.

The strange feature of many of the demonstrations, however, is that we see some of the key party political figures of government austerity policies being invited to speak. This is an odd Finnish characteristic that we cannot explain other than by the fact that the ruling parties in Parliament want in one way or another to retain their consensus politics identity. It was unbelieveable to hear at the demonstration at Railway Station Sqaure packed with trade unionists government PR spiel about why people’s working hours should be made longer and their pay cut – that is at a demonstration demanding a change of political direction and for fair tripartite talks on pay increases instead of policies pushing down pay levels, an end to intimidation by ‘local’ agreements and an end to the diktat of employers.

SOCIALISM OF THE EARLY 2000s

The developmental problems of Finland and the rest of the world will not be tackled by subjugating politics to the markets, by government austerity policies and people able only to choose differently named parties from the same neo-liberal policy drive.

We need politics where people are not just instruments but are the protagonists and purpose of politics. It is wrong to imagine that we can immediately provide ready-made recipes and plan the stages of change for everything in advance. New left wing radical change desires cooperation and seeks out and realises alternatives together with the people, trade union movement, citizens’ movements and parties that want change.

It is obvious to us that we want to develop common action against neo-liberalism and big capital in order to alter the direction of politics, to expand the rights of working people and the poor, limit the power of monopoly capital, to ensure sustainable development and peace and to open the road to socialism.

The power of capitalist monopolies and financial institutions is from our communist perspective a grave obstacle to rational, just and environmentally sustainable development. Similarly, from the viewpoint of workingmen and workingwomen the greatest threats and uncertainties facing humanity are directly related to the capitalist mode of production and the dominant logic of capital. That is why as communists we say that capitalism is an obstacle to human freedom, the welfare of peoples and a threat to the future of all humanity.

Today we can safely say that, yes, the movements for socialism have experienced disappointments and setbacks, and yet replacing capitalism with a fundamentally different society and form of development is from the perspective of class struggle today all the more crucial. Socialist values persist because any vision of a dignified and positive future without them would be utterly inadequate. The ideals of socialism are palpable and alive in movements that struggle for human rights, equality and freedom.

The ideals and objective of socialism give us as communists a direction in our everyday work and activity. Socialism does not simply denote values and the politics practiced in their name. Revolution means the creation of new power and economic structures, as a result of the struggles of the working class and the majority of the people, that promote the construction of a workers’ Europe, a democratic welfare society, democracy and solidarity, and of a new human civilisation. This is why as communists we say that the revolution is present in our daily work and activities, and more and more so with every passing year.

Socialism signifies profound changes in our relationship with work, power, nature and other people and peoples. Socialism does not mean the abolition of all private ownership, but it does mean various forms of social ownership of the means of production so that the markets can be subjugated to cater for people’s needs and that we can steer development systematically on an environmentally sustainable path. It is a society of highly advanced productive forces.

Crises have always been integral to the history of capitalism and its efforts to solve problems. Now, the crisis is that of the capitalist system, the distinctive feature of which is the devastating effect of massively bloated financial markets. Speculation on the stock market and imaginary expected value suppresses and plunders tha rest of the economy. Another distinctive feature of the system is the concurrence of multiple crises and the refugee crisis triggered by imperialist wars. Capital’s multiple crises combine financial crises, energy, food and environmental crises as well as the crisis of parliamentary democracy. At issue is also the crisis of the current model of economic, social and environmental development.

More than anything, the point is that the major problems facing humanity cannot be solved within the capitalist framework. It is obvious that the financial markets and transnational corporations, the stock markets and the bankers, Shell and McDonald’s have other things in mind than solving the problems of poverty, unemployment, inequality and chilate change. The initiative of socialism in the 2000s is one for a totally different type of society, in which the status of ownership, money and power do not give anyone the scope to exploit and oppress others.

It is precisely as communists that we, together with others who want to bring about change, can meet the prospects of revolutionary change, for socialism in the 2000s. This is a vast challenge for us CPF comrades, who have decided to update the Party programme so that at our next Congress we can decide on the new updated CPF programme.

INTERNATIONAL CLASS POLITICS

The CPF is a member of the radical family of the European Left. We also naturally have bilateral relations with communist and workers’ partied in the Nordic countries, other parts of Europe and the world. For the CPF it is important to be able to develop international party relations in a more practically oriented, not to say Marxist direction, from a relationship focussing on messages of greetings and conferences and in a direction more closely aligned to campaigning and joint action.

Here, the European Left is an important tool for the CPF. We have been able to develop a variety of campaigns, such as peace initiatives and work on specific issues in the Arctic region; security, the environment, and human rights, both through the European Left and communist and workers’ parties around the world. The Arctic Initiative 6.6. immediately after our Congress shows how with even modest financial resources we can bring together the communist parties of the Arctic region, progressive European parties, NGO representatives researchers, artists and workers to debate and survey the common awareness of Arctic issues that unite us all.

The world’s communist and workers’ parties play an important role in the CPF’s cooperation policy. We have cooperated closely with the Communist Party of Cuba, among others, followed and taken part in the discusson on the process of modernising Cuban socialism. 26 September 2014 was the first International Day on the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons. Cuba has been a pioneering state in action to eliminate nuclear weapons. We hope for broad international support for the project and that governments, parliaments and civil societies will observe 26 September each year as international nuclear disarmament day, and in so doing focus attention on the need for the total elimination of nuclear weapons.

Good, comradely relations both with the Embassy here in Finland as with the CPC and with comrades working in Cuba have strengthened the political work of the CPF here in the North.

HATE SPEECH AND POLITICAL PERSPECTIVE

The security policy programme of the Finns Party is that the development of hate crime legislation should not set limits on normal political debate.

I would argue that when ordinary workers blame immigrants for endangering their own basic security, it emanates from rightwing politics and the bourgeois media grinder. This in no way excludes the point that the organisational activities of the working class need to be improved. Collective learning about about social matters and cultural activities are tools for understanding the changing world. Have we organised enough discussions and training courses? Refugees, undocumented people, asylum seekers, the sick, pensioners and the most underprivileged and the scapegoats of neo-liberalism’s politics of greed – not just by accident but completely intentionally.

Though the broad left has not had any electoral successes in the last three years and support for the CPF is miniscule, we have advanced on the wider European front and increased the strength of the Left in the EU Parliament, for instance. The seat won by the Left Alliance’s Merja Kyllönen was an important gain for the Left in Finland. Also, the European trade union movement, particularly the ETUC, has been involved in many labour struggles and general strikes, notably in Central and Southern Europe.

Drawing conclusions on the current situation in Europe and the Euroregion is a key issue for all Communist and Left movements.

For the CPF the situation in Greece is by no means a matter of local curiosity, but rather a question of international class struggle. It cannot be resolved within the borders of a single country, but requires broad international cooperation and a united front. What happens in Greece could well take place elsewhere in Europe, and recur with even worse repurcussions. Europe’s direction cannot be changed unless there is a powerful class struggle Left and working class movement.

It is no doubt that we are in solidarity with the struggle that has taken place in Greece and continues to take place agaonst monopoly capital, the power of money and the power of the banks. The struggle against austerity policies is not a struggle in one country; in Finland or Greece the struggle against austerity policies is at the core of the international class struggle. This is why the various radical Left and Communist struggles against austerity must be supported. We hope that the struggle for another Europe and another world in Finland, Greece and globally becomes stronger through the unity of the working class. The situation in Portugal, where there is a government of social democrats, the Left bloc and the communists, will open up new perspectives and hopes for us on the possibility for Left cooperation.

The age-old struggle of the working class for an egalitarian society must essentially involve a struggle for the self-determination of peoples, equality and human rights. Our demand is for justice, not the racist segregation of workers, longer working hours and Sipilä’s 5% trick about lowering labour costs.

PEACE

There is no need for foreign fighter jets to be in Finland, nor for foreign tanks nor foreign warships. The annual surveys of support in Finalnd for Nato make it clear that people in Finland are opposed to the military alliance. Previously, the will of the people are been reflected in Finland’s foreign policy emphasis on neutrality. The Sipilä government is now carrying out the policy of the National Coalition Party and is taking Finland towards Nato membership using war games and programmes disguised as cooperation for peace.

Finland’s foreign policy must not be changed towards one of military alliance. This spring, the war games were conducted not with Nato but directly with the United States. Neither MPs nor even ministers have taken responsibility for security policy, and public discussion has mainly been about communication. The US invited itself to Finland, Russia’s neighbor, to conduct war games. Finland and Nato signed the Host Nation Support agreement in autumn 2014. The move towards military alignment is increasing tensions in our region and US – Russian relations have become strained in recent years. Finland is now in danger of becoming caught up in imperialist conflicts.

We must keep Finland out of wars and out of Nato. Finland is not a colony for war games. The Sipilä government’s billion-dollar weapons acquisitions must be reversed and the money used for them used to combat poverty and promote employment. It is absurd to devote millions of euros to US war games in Finland. We call on all peace-loving forces for a return to Finnish non-alignment. We must act as the pioneers of disarmament and for ridding the world of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction.

The Finnish peace movement’s connection to the rest of the world occasionally rears its head. The problem is that the Finnish peace movement suffers from political timidity, which prevents its internationalisation. The political tensions between the World Peace Council and the Peace Bureau are one reason for the peace movement’s international passivity and caution. The CPF has important bilateral relations on peace issues with many progressive movements in Europe, including in Greece, Portugal, Germany and Denmark. Also, concrete joint initiatives such as the Peace Alert in summer 2015 facilitated dialogue with among others the Chinese peace movement. From the CPF’s peace activist’s perspective it would be desireable if the broad Finnish Left and Green could cooperate better in the future and have political speeches at our events. It is important that peace work can take place at grassroots level as citizen advocacy, but it should also have natural relations with various political forces and it should be able to challenge all influential figures in society to take part in peace building work.

Historically, fascist parties have always been allied with bourgeois elites: big industry, banks, the civil service class and the military. From the perspective of fascist economic history (Hitler, Mussolini) the habitual aim was for war and maintaining powerful armed forces.

The security policy agenda of the Finns party states that Finland will defend Finns and that the keystone of Finnish defence is a territorial defence system based on general conscription. The Finns Party is part of a government that is increasing the defence budget while making sweeping cuts from elsewhere in society, so tat we will soon reach the target of 2% GDP on defence spending of a proper Nato member.

The Finns Party’s security policy agenda views immigration policy as border control and, in addition to police capacity, one of the central factors linked to security. Finland should, according to the agenda, remain outside the planned pan-European immigration and refugee policy, so that Finland could decide for itself how many foreigners we take.

The Finns Party security policy was concretised by the fact that the SSS [Sipilä, Stubbs, Soini – the leaders of the overning coalition parties] government has cut development aid by €300-million. I think that instead of increasing austerity, poverty and injustice we must act differently. The cuts to the development budget must be halted. At a time when the refugees and the Third World crisis are hand in hand our own poverty and deprivation has clearly reached a critical point, it is crucial that economic policy be realigned. Austerity and business policy must be abandoned. People and work to negate poverty must be put first. We must demand that the government increases activity for the world’s most disadvantaged people by making development aid 0,7% of GDP. Similarly, the basic human rights of undocumented people already in Finland, particularly women and children, to such things as health services, must be improved. Finland needs a law on the rights of undocumented people. We need legislation that constrains municipalities to arrange non-emergency health care services, such as pregnancy and maternity care, to undocumented people.

Today it is important that we recall the 2015 Peace Alert done in Helsinki. It will continue to call on people to join actions and campaigns against war games, armed forces, weapons and military bases.

The text of the Peace Alert states clearly that we oppose new war games, new weapons, new armed forces and new military bases.

RAINBOW POLITICS

Over the last three years tere has been a thoroughgoing discussion in Finland on the status of gender and sexual minorities. The human rights of transgender people are still badly neglected. For us as a party it has been obvious, and in the political bureau we have called for people to be able to notify the registry office themselves of their gender. We have also called for recognition of a third gender, which in practice means that where there is a situation where a physician cannot determine an infant’s gender, they are defined as being of third gender, instead of undergoing gender reassignment surgery.

The CPF has shown itself to be the strongest of the parties when in terms of rainbow politics. It has chosen for its chairperson an openly gay man as its leader and its positions have sought throughout to reach the goals of equality and feminism. Many see the CPF as a pluralist and feminist party. Whether these positions and vision will translate into electoral support is another matter. Firstly, the CPF seeks a membership base of fortitude, class-consciousness and collective power to establish cooperation for a politics in which the struggle for better basic security for all is not a parochial issue but fundamentally international.

What we need at this time is the fire of passion: we need feminist initiatives from the roots for building a different society. What is needed at this time and in this society are fundamentally different structures that do not pit worker against worker. We need fuel and flame for the kind of society that is based on the age-old trade union demand for equality and justice, peace and participatory democracy. And we need action and the will that unites progressives and subversive forces in a feminist and pluralist popular front against austerity.

Dear sisters,

In several EU member states economic, immigration, financial and all other crises are cited as reasons for the austerity policies, driving down the public sector and an emphasis on traditional family values that are undermining the situation of women.

The Sipilän government is aligning Finland by this bourgeois policy to the group of countries where governments use austerity as a device for putting women in their place outside of formal working life – if not exactly between the kitchen stove and a hard place, then at least without being paid from within the third sector, where work refers to charity.

Last summer, 85 Finnish professors, university chancellors and heads of research issues a harsh criticism of the government programme of Prime Mininster Sipilä for its complete absence of a gender equality perspective. The crisis policy austerity measures targeting the public sector and services have had a clear gender impact. According to Professor Niklas Bruun of the Hanken School of Economics, the situation of women in particular who are asylumseekers, have disabilities or belong to sexual minorities is worst not only in crisis countries but in the whole EU.

As leftwing European women and femininsts we act and work to oppose patriarchy and the madness of capitalism. The International Women’s Day appeal stressed that in Europe prosperity and wealth must be shared. An open borders policy must be promores, meaning that people fleeing war, poverty and climate change must be helped – asylum must be given, people must be helped.

The statement of women of the European Left /EL-Fem declares, “We women know that all forms of sexual violence take place everywhere in our lives. We women of the Left know that the whole capitalist system is based on violence. Violence is structural, physical and psychological. And this structural violence must be tackled, not just when the offenders are men from other cultures, ibut it must be addressed in every form and structure.”

I agree with this statement. It is important to add to the Finnish debate on rape and violence the Left feminist denouncement or refusal of women being used as a racist policy or discourse tool.

EUROPEAN POLICY

The CPF is is one of the most insightful Left parties in issues of EU relations. In joining the EU, Finnish people were promised peace, freedom and economic growth. These promises now seem grotesque, as the EU elite regulates which policies EU countries are allowed to follow and within the EU we are more concerned about the welfare of investors than with equality, solidarity of the overall state of the national economy.

It is important to examine EU activity and business policy from a working class perspective. EU member states are in an austerity race against democracy and the social Europe. From a feminist perspective we can say that a consequence of the right-wing policy being pursued is disregard for equality and human rights commitments.

For us as communists it is blatantly apparent that in our policies we are not aiming for a parochial national capitalism like the Finns Party or the liberal ultra conservatives, whose hallmark is pretty much along the lines of bringing back the Finnmark and nationalism instead of international solidarity.

Fos us as communists it is obvious that talk about bringing back the Finnmark without the demand for overcoming the supremacy of the banks is empty talk. Similarly, talk of leaving the EU is flawed unless at the same time we break with EU treaties and, most importantly, from the hegemonic logic of the market economy and the structures of capitalism.

This is why as communists we talk about a workers’ Europe and why as Communists we talk about building a workers’ Europe. Creating a workers’ Europe is not a reformist project. A workers’ Europe is not based on the logic of capitalism or the market economy. It’s a project that can be criticised for being too long term. And, sure, with current power relations the way they are we cannot right away today in our parliaments overturn the prevailing social structures. But we have no other way than the road of cooperation and peace. In this the analytical work and practical advocacy work together with both radical communist and workers parties, the network of European communist parties and the European Left collective are of central importance.

In the EU, public services and child and family benefits are being cut and government work on gender equality shut down or drastically reduced. In the name of structural renewal, the contractual structures of the labour market, the status of women and gender equality has been palbably worsened and minimum income norms have been flouted.

A feminist perspective is not just a communist perspective. Among other things, the supervisory bodies, of the International Labour Organisation’s supervisory bodies, the expert committees on the application of standards and conventions and the Committee on Freedom of Association, and the Council of Europe’s body monitoring the implementation of the Social Charter have documented these violations extensively. The UN committee monitoring the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women has, in its deliberations on the situation in Greece, described a country in the grip of a profound humanitarian crsisi and has many documented violations of fundamental rights.

To us it is crystal clear that another world is possible. And it is equally crystal clear that another European Union based on current capitalist structures and directives and laws that ruin people, nature and democracy is not possible.

SOLIDARITY

We call on the Finnish government to act in the EU to affirm the rights of self-determination and peace of Palestine, Cyprus and Weste Sahara. The government must have the courage to promote peace and to oppose Nato and the international arms industry.

The prerequisites of EU cooperation with Turkey, Israel and Morocco must be reassessed and the start of peace negotiations and an end to the policy of occupation made the starting points for such cooperation.

In 2015, I participated in the Congress of Polisario, the Western Sahara freedom front, in Dakhla refugee camp in Western Algeria on the edge of the Sahara desert. I was able to follow the discussion of the Sahrawi comrades on the situation concerning the occupation by Marocco that has continued already for 40 years, in which the UN had not been able to organise a referendum, despit pledges to do so, a referendum on whether the Sahrawi people want to belong to Marocco or be an independent nation. Young Sahrawis told about the lack of prospects. The Polisario army is preparing for a possible end to the ceasefire. UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon has visited the region but there are no radical moves toward peace at hand.

Some may wonder what the tiny CPF can do in the desert about world conflicts. My answer is a lot. Conflicts and wars in the world always need countries, men and women who want peace. I my speech at the Polisario Congress I appealed to President Mohammed Abdelaziz to continue with the long-term peace policy. I took the opinions of the President and the results Polisario congress and information about the political situation to the meeting of the board of the Communist European Left comprising representatives of 30 left and communist parties.

In the European Left we are launching a campaign to keep its member parties informed of contacts with Polisario representatoves in each EU member state. In Finland, for instance, we are aiming to get a Left Alliance MP to establish a Western Sahara friendship group that would be an important means of political influence for the Sahrawi independence struggle. We are making a similar effort with respect to the independence struggle of the Palestinian people

The Central Committee of the Communist Party of Finland supports the Polisario liberation front in its struggle for the democratic and peaceful independence of the Sahrawi people. The CPF calls on the Finnish government to recognise the Arab Democratic Republic of Sahara.

While we are in solidarity with geographically distant struggles we need also to be able to look at situations close at hand. It is obvious to us that we require the Sipilä government to urgently deal with ILO Convention 169, left behind by the previous government of Alexander Stubb. The convention must be ratified to safeguard the fundamental and human rights of the Saami people and the preservation of their culture and language, and prevent efforts to integrate them into the majority population.

The CPF’s district organisation in Lapland proposed that we mark the Sami people’s national day, 6 February 2016 by flying the Sami flag. I supported this.

‘WELCOME’ IS A FINNISH VERB

There has nowadays people fleeing war, poverty and hunger have been coming en masss to us in Europe, Finland, Helsinki and even small localities. The war of the jungle: greed, the conquest and subjugation of weaker peoples – imperialism – have driven people from ther homes andhome turf. Many asylum seekers have had to witness people dying before their eyes.

For a refugee, Finland means the cold unknown North, but also peace and protection. For Finns it means the unknown South but also the chance to be human to another human. ‘Welcome’ is not a difficult word for any of us; between people it is the minimum. Karelian evacuees, war children, Gothenburg car factory men and American Finns live today in our discussions.

This time challenges us to think. We cannot externalise the “asylum seeker crisis” to consulates, policies, or even professional helpers. The debate on refugees will not be resolved by remaining silent. We must talk about it in our workplaces, in the media, in schools and in the marketplaces. We must detect the strucures of racism. We must analyse its thought patterns. I have been part of many new social debates in situations where previously there was only talk about entertainment and swingers. Refugees and austerity have brought back politics. The tracks of this lead to capitalism and those guilty of war policies.

Austerity hits asylum

The EU Commission has proposed that asylum seelers be relocated from Greece and Italy to other EU countries. The Sipilä government decided in the beginning of autumn last year that Finland would take a quota of 2 400 asylum seekers. The same government has decided to determine whether the social security for those who are granted asylum can be cut and support systems unbundled. This way those granted asylum would no longer be included in the sphere of residence-based social protection, said Finns Party leader Timo Soini.

I oppose this policy of the Sipiläm Soini and Stubb government. It is patriarchial, top-down coercion politics that intensifies inequality, poverty and racism. At the same tie, when it comes to influencing the causes of the influx of refugees, the government cuts the development aid budget and supports imperialist policy whose destruction is evident in places such as Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya and Palestine.

The government’s aim of cutting the social protection of refugees is a wrong policy that places people in a position of inequality. It is obvious that placing refugees in even greater poverty in Finland will produce even worse conditions for them to learn the language and culture, to be employed and to gain an understanding of Finnish society. Denied proper basic social security, refugees could well fall victim to the shadow economy.

Though integrating refugees is initially paid for by society, over the long-term their employment generates tax revenue and relieves the so-called “sustainability gap”. There will be more expense and problems if there’s no investment in the integration needed for asylum.

Instead of setting poor people against one another, we need sufficient basic security for everyone who needs it – for both the main population and refugees – the creation of new jobs, more opportunities for immigrants to learn Finnish, and resources for minority cultures for their own cultural activities. The money for this can be found from sharing the record profits of big corporations by taxation and by cutting weapons procurements.

The struggle of the working class movement has always been an international activity against the power of money and for democracy. The income transfers from the poor to the rich and the tightening of immigration policy are impossible to backtrack. The working class movement must through collective power demand that the government buries its planned “two tier” social security, stop income transfers from the poor to the rich and give people priority before markets. Instead of cutting development aid and supporting war policies, it must act for peace and a more just world.

The countries in which the United States and its allies have started wars are, logically enough, the same as those from which the largest international migration have begun. People have been forced by imperialist wars, the poverty induced by the laws of the market economy and the climate change brought about by industrial capitalism – by these three main issues to leave their homes, their home turf and their own cultures. People have unwillingly had to become refugees and move to another country.

We Finns have over the past year had a storm of debate. Nationalist groups have emerged demanding that the borders be closed. Some MPs have openly incited racist and fascist activity. On the other hand, there have also emerged movements and campaigns from among active citizens themselves in defence of human rights and refugee rights, and many MPs support them.

Finland’s refugee policy echoes EU refugee policy, which has recently made a serious error in agreeing with Turkey for the return of refugees from Greece to Turkey and the curb on refugees in Turkey proceeding to Europe. The EU’s neoliberal forces together with conservative Turkish politicians have made a lucrative agreement that have left the world’s refugees to fend for themselves in a situation in Turket where basic refugee rights are not fulfilled and where there is an effort to solve at low cost the refugee crisis caused by te US and its allies.

CULTURAL POLICY

The political elite is sowing a field of vipers in our midst. The crop of austerity policy’s parochial cultural landscape is being shorn of everything human and different by a fascist harvester. The bread that the policy of cutting produces is expensive, tastes bitter and contains a stone.

The government has again cropped arts and culture budgets quite regardless of whether in its decision it was atuned to a varied market economy or, as today, to one of monochrome capitalism.

The freezing of the arts and culture budjets is a tangible cut in funding. We get less for less. The arts and culture fields are not satisfied that the Minister of Culture Sanni Gran Laasonen does not aim with her policy to free life’s more expensive bills. Places in the cultural sun are under this policy are more severely restricted. Theausterity policy of the National Coalition Party, the Centre Party and the Finns Party has concretised the higher price of life and the erosion of social responsibility as well as cultural services.

It is time to generate a counter culture. The 8,8% of the national budget for culture must be increased.

HASTA LA VICTORIA SIEMPRE – UNTIL VICTORY, ALWAYS!

I would hope that the Left Alliance and the CPF’s cooperation could find opportunities in the initiatives of the European Left, such as the joint feminist initiatives for women’s right to decent work and pay, the right to decide on their own body and the right to abortion. The scope for cooperation could also be found in an initiative to strengthen the rights of immigrant workers and in peace initiatives together with other Left parties in Europe.

A COLOURFUL AND PLURALIST COMMON FRONT

What’s needed now is participation, work and action for building another Finland, a workers’ Europe and a better world.

This must include the communist desire for justice, equality and sharing. It must include the feminist vision of the equal rights of all women and men and of every person to development.

It must include the environmental demand to transform our planet for the universal common good.

And

It must incorporate the vision of a world culture where minorities have the right to their own culture, and what is important, dear comrades: it must include the right of all citizens to decide themselves on all matters locally and globally.

Millionaire labor leader turned foundation-funded intellectual Amy Dean "analyzes" Obama and the Democrats.

Amy Dean, another one of these millionaire labor leaders now further enriching herself at the foundation-funded trough, has come out with an "analysis" of the Obama legacy concerning organized labor... read what she wrote for yourself...

http://democracyjournal.org/magazine/41/workers-stand-with-labor/

... and then ask a few questions like:

Why doesn't she call for the repeal of "At-Will Employment?"

Why doesn't she call for a "21st Century Full Employment act for Peace and Prosperity" that would make it mandatory for the president and Congress to attain and then maintain real full employment?

Why doesn't she call for the Minimum Wage becoming a real living wage tied to the actual cost-of-living like Frances Perkins intended?

Why doesn't Amy Dean point out that Wall Street's imperialist agenda is detrimental to working people improving their lives and livelihoods?

Amy Dean does not advocate public ownership of the mines, mills, factories or entire industries as the solution to Wall Street employers fleeing to low wage/cheap resource markets--- and, we must never forget it is low wages that make resources cheap.

Amy Dean fails to point out that it is not China dumping cheap steel in the United States that is the problem but Wall Street's control of the Chinese labor market pushing the wages of Chinese workers down so Wall Street's profits rise that makes Chinese Steel cheaper than U.S. steel. The millionaire labor leaders and their Democratic partners ignore this little fact.

And, finally; why doesn't Amy Dean make any reference to the "Cost-of-Living Crisis" every single working class family is caught up in?

Of course, Amy Dean makes no mention of the fact that millionaire labor leaders are not capable of understanding the problems of working people and that all they do in order to protect their own cushy jobs is kiss the butts of Democratic Party politicians who, working with their Republican counterparts, are shoving austerity measures down our throats to pay for their dirty wars.

Amy Dean claims to advocate for "social democracy" in place of neo-liberalism even though neo-liberalism can't survive without the partnership and collaboration from social democrats who mislead the labor movement.

Amy Dean conveniently doesn't recommend workers turning to real socialist and Communist ideas as were advocated by Eugene Debs, William Z. Foster, W.E.B. Du Bois or the "seat of the pants socialist" William Winpisinger.

Amy Dean is pushing for the election of Hillary Clinton with the rest of the millionaire labor leaders who, like their Democratic politician counterparts, lack the moral and political courage to get specific about solving any of our problems.

Let's remember: Movement building is about educating, organizing and uniting in militant and determined struggle to win SPECIFIC solutions to our common problems.

Let Amy Dean start writing like this, from a Marxist class struggle perspective and see how long her foundation funding lasts...

Benghazi

Benghazi, Benghazi... we will be hearing about Benghazi now until Election Day... what we won't hear about Benghazi is that the United States had no business going into Libya in the first place. "Regime change" and "humanitarian intervention" are all part of Wall Street's imperialist agenda being carried out faithfully by the Democrats and Republicans working together.

Had Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton not undertaken the overthrow of the Libyan government and planned the grotesque murder of Muammar Gaddafi no one would have been killed in the U.S. embassy in Benghazi.

But we will never hear this from the U.S. media or any Democrats or Republicans... certainly not Hillary Clinton... nor even from Bernie Sanders.

The Democrats will have no anti-imperialist resolution to debate at their National Convention thanks to Keith Ellison and Cornel West.

Are Puerto Ricans in for the Detroit treatment?

Puerto Ricans are having austerity measures shoved down their throats by Wall Street.

It is Wall Street's dictate and both the Democrats and Republicans carry out what Wall Street directs them to do. There is bi-partisan unity for Wall Street's domestic and foreign agenda. Isn't it time to stop making these excuses for Obama, Clinton an
d the rest of these Democrats as if they are not fully in league with Wall Street's imperialist agenda? It's Obama AND the Republicans.

What is being done to the the Puerto Rican people is to assure that the Wall Street employers continue to profit from the super-exploitation of cheap labor as the Wall Street bankers now profit from the misery created by forcing austerity measures down the throats of the Puerto Rican people who have been subjected to U.S. imperialist dictate, repression and oppression non-stop ever since the Spanish-American War.

One more reason we need a new progressive people's party that is both anti-monopoly and anti-imperialist with the moral and political courage to challenge Wall Street for both political and economic power with the intent of nationalizing the mines, mills, factories, banking and energy industries through public ownership. We need to move forward very boldly with a socialist agenda to counter Wall Street's imperialist agenda leading us to doom.

The problems require not baby steps and incremental reforms but that we unite in the kind of working class struggle that will enable us to take a huge leap forward.

The people of Puerto Rico will be rising up in anger against this new wave of imperialist aggression, oppression, repression and exploitation and it is our responsibility to support them in their struggle against our common Wall Street enemies.

Bernie Sanders, Bill McKibben and Climate Change--- how did they miss this?

Bernie Sanders and Bill McKibben of the Rockefeller funded 350.org claim to be working on a resolution on Climate Change to present to the Democratic National Convention and about five years ago Bill McKibben told me that he intended to get to the role played by the Wall Street's Military-Industrial Complex and its militarism and wars in relation to global warming and it seems to be taking McKibben an awfully long time to bring this forward... Well maybe now would be a good time for lots of people to urge Bernie Sanders and Bill McKibben and all these liberals, progressives and leftists who want to lead us to believe it is possible to influence the Democratic Party through its Platform to bring this concept into the discussion on Climate Change and the Democratic Party Platform:

https://canadiandimension.com/articles/view/climate-change-and-the-military-industrial-complex1

By the way, the Green Party and other smaller parties and the people involved with the Leap Manifesto might want to give this some consideration, too.

I have noticed even Naomi Klein has been reluctant, just like Noam Chomsky and Al "Change Your Lighbulbs So Wal-mart Can Make a Lot of Money" Gore, to address peace and beating swords into plowshares as the best way to begin the process of reversing global warming.

Come on, let's find out how the Democrats and Hillary Clinton will respond to ending militarism and wars as the best approach to Climate Change.

I bet Mother Nature would appreciate it.

Rocky Anderson... another fake "progressive" comes out of the woodwork like a termite at work in the dark at election time in order to do a little red-baiting.

So, Rocky Anderson has taken to attacking me, again; what a fraud that guy has turned out to be but what can one expect from a former Democratic Party politician who helped his friends enrich themselves from lucrative real estate dealings in Salt Lake City when he was Mayor. Rocky Anderson says he can't work with someone like me (his code language for pernicious red-baiting)--- but he could work with Mitt Romney.

The dissension between me and the former Salt Lake City Mayor stems from my drafting what the position of the Justice Party should have been regarding full employment.

Rocky Anderson insists that it is good enough that he supports the Humphrey-Hawkins Full Employment Act which has nothing to do with full employment and everything to do with glossing over the fact that the Democrats want to be able to talk about "Jobs, Jobs, Jobs" at election time to trick workers out of their votes but then these same Democrats refuse to make themselves legislatively responsible for attaining and then maintaining full employment by putting millions to work solving the pressing problems of the people and fulfilling social needs through universal social programs like a National Public Health Care System, National Public Child Care System, re-establishment of WPA and CCC, etc.

And most of all, Rocky Anderson, just like the Democrats he only partially left, wants to be able to vaguely talk about peace without talking about the need to end militarism and imperialist interventions and wars while advocating beating swords into plowshares in order to pay for these universal social programs which would put tens of millions of people to work on real living wage jobs.

Just as Rocky Anderson, just like a Libertarian, doesn't believe government should be made legislatively responsible for attaining and maintaining full employment, he doesn't believe government should use its levers of power to put an end to this horrendous "Cost-of-Living Crisis" every single working class family is caught up in.

As Rocky Anderson himself admits, he is a follower of the advice offered to Democrats by their leading party hack, George Lakoff, who has written that in order to win votes issues must be "properly framed" but left without any specifics for alleviating and ending any problems because to suggest specific solutions to problems will lead to a rupture of Democratic Party unity--- read loss of support from Wall Street.

Wall Street profits from wars.

Wall Street profits from for-profit schemes like Obamacare and for-profit child care.

Wall Street reaps huge profits from this "Cost-of-Living Crisis" which sees prices on everything from food to fuel to college tuition to health care and child care spiraling out of control--- we pay; they profit.

These fake and phony "progressives" like Rocky Anderson are no better than the Democrats they claim they have come to resent but want to be every bit as corrupt and undemocratic as the Democrats and even though they claim to loathe the Republicans, when big money deals involving real estate are involved, Rocky Anderson can work with the likes of a Mitt Romney--- and when it comes to the rights and livelihoods of workers, Rocky Anderson demonstrated during his tenure as Mayor of Salt Lake City he could be every bit as callous and cold-hearted towards the rights and livelihoods of workers as Donald Trump as he glossed over his animosity towards the working class with the kind of self-serving language Hillary Clinton uses even though as she claims to support labor she doesn't mention she was the architect of a Wal-mart policy which included firing pregnant women and nursing mothers from their poverty waged jobs.

How much more of this kind of self-serving/Wall Street serving politics will people in this country put up with whether it comes from Obama, Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders or Rocky Anderson... who, in addition to having no problem working with Mitt Romney, has no problem working with the head of a Wall Street investment firm, Jonathan Ruga, and even the most crass Libertarians, one of whom openly supports genocide against the Palestinian people and another who had a link to David Duke's website at the time Rocky Anderson recruited him to be on the National Steering Committee of the Justice Party.

Some people want to re-organize the Justice Party but it seems to be a daunting task as long as an opportunist like Rocky Anderson is tolerated in trying to dictate what the Justice Party should stand for.

We simply won't be able to free ourselves from this two-party trap as long as we allow the likes of a Rocky Anderson to dominate the discussion... after all, Rocky Anderson is a big fan of Bernie Sanders and no doubt will go along with Bernie Sanders' decision to support Hillary Clinton as we get closer to Election Day even though at this time he says he won't. But what's new? We heard this line before only to have these phony "progressives" capitulate.

Monday, June 27, 2016

Who speaks for you?

As working people we are paying a very heavy price for allowing a few millionaire labor leaders and this huge crowd of muddle-headed upper-middle class intellectuals with their diplomas pinned to the wall dominate the political discourse when it comes to our problems.

For these people, politics has become the art and science intended to trick us out of our votes by making us think their nice sounding rhetoric is intended to be a solution to our problems when they are really looking out for their own interests without stating such.

Some examples:

Health care... the doctors lined up in support of single-payer universal health care and then went along with Obamacare because it kept them in the profit loop along with the pharmaceutical companies, the private for profit hospitals and nursing homes when the real solution to this health care mess, the only real solution, is National Public Health Care System.

When it comes to child care, here again they push the for profit system under the guise they want to make it "affordable" when in fact, the more expensive it is--- just like with health care--- the more profit they make off of us. The real solution is a National Public Child Care System.

Then we come to the issue of full employment; we have all heard the line, "Jobs, Jobs, Jobs" yet these charlatans posing as "progressives" won't go any further than supporting the Humphrey-Hawkins Full Employment Act which is no full employment act at all because it only establishes voluntary goals and objectives rather than it becoming mandatory that the president and Congress attain and maintain full employment... and, when the truth be told, even the very minimal standards established by Humphrey-Hawkins which allows for millions to remain unemployed have never been met.

We have the same thing when it comes to the most pressing and important issue facing humanity: peace--- ending militarism and these dirty imperialist wars robbing us of the wealth required to really solve our problems by putting people to work solving our problems. For these shysters who claim to be looking out for us when they are actually heavily invested in the arms industry, imperialism takes on the face of humanitarian intervention.

Just ask these muddle-headed upper-middle class "intellectuals" who so arrogantly insist on defining our problems and speaking for us to see their investment portfolios and it becomes clear why this grouping who Wall Street entrusts to look after its affairs would like us to believe they speak for us.

And keep in mind you won't hear any of these muddle-headed upper-middle-class intellectuals ever mention the fact that every single working class family is caught up in this very real "Cost-of-Living Crisis" which makes it a struggle for working class families to make ends meet from pay-check to pay-check never mind trying to make ends meet on an unemployment check, Social Security or the miserly Minimum Wage or welfare allotments.

Our world is the real world these well-heeled muddle-headed upper-middle class intellectuals and millionaire labor leaders will never understand simply because all the solutions to our problems will require they and their Wall Street crowd will have to cough up the wealth they have been stealing from us either through outright exploitation of our labor or through various crooked and corrupt schemes their politicians have devised for their benefit.

Their profits result in our poverty.

It really is this simple.

Speak up in defense of peace, your rights and your livelihood because if you don't no one else will.

We have seen how easy it was for Bernie Sanders to go from railing against Wall Street to supporting Wall Street's favorite candidate and don't think for a minute all these well-heeled muddle-headed upper-middle class intellectuals who profit from our problems right along with Wall Street won't be following Bernie Sanders' lead in voting for Hillary Clinton who helped Wal-mart devise a scheme to fire pregnant women and nursing mothers... any human being who would be this mean spirited in establishing a corporate line is beyond all hope of human redemption and should never be considered fit to hold any public office let alone the presidency.

Neither Hillary Clinton nor Donald Trump are morally, ethically or intellectually qualified to be the next president of the United States because they both serve Wall Street's interests--- not our interests as working people.

Banned from "The People's Summit:" any talk about building a new progressive people's party.

We are still hearing a great deal about "The People's Summit."

What I do not understand is how an event can be billed as "The People's Summit" but any talk about organizing a new "people's party" is banned as a topic of discussion even though it is very clear the majority of the people in this country have no use for the Democrats or Republicans because there is an understanding that neither party will address the concerns and problems of the people in a way leading to solutions.

We need to organize a real people's summit that will lead to the creation of a new political party in this country.

Therefore, I have commented on all the YouTube videos promoting this "People's Summit" with this comment:

Check this out. It was written by Minnesota's second socialist Governor, Elmer Benson, who had been elected on the Minnesota Farmer-Labor ticket. Benson also Chaired the Progressive Party which ran Henry Wallace for president. We have to break free from this two-party trap.

Hillary Clinton and Elizabeth Warren on the campaign trail in Ohio...

...Feeding working people a line of crap in order to trick people out of votes while the Wall Street employers are financing this circus of the clowns.

Neither one of these Democrats offer real solutions to the problems working people are experiencing.

Millionaire labor leaders bus people in to create the crowds who applaud on cue.

Among Hillary Clinton's Wall Street financial backers are some of the worst poverty wage paying employers and union busters

Workers got nothing from Obama and the Democrats and workers will get even less from Hillary Clinton and her coalition of Wall Street bribed and serving Democrats and Republicans and millionaire labor leaders whose only connection to the working class is the dues they collect from the members that go to pay their big fat salaries.

The capitalist economy is on the skids to oblivion and this Wall Street crowd of Democrats and Republicans will intensify the exploitation of the working class while imposing the most heinous and Draconian austerity measures on working class families to pay for these dirty imperialist wars.

The "Cost-of-Living Crisis" will continue to deepen.

The cost of everything from food to child care and health care to college tuition will continue to rise as employers continue to squeeze more production from fewer and fewer workers paid even less to produce more as Social Security is intentionally sabotaged in order to set it up for privatization so the Wall Street vultures in quest of greater profits can impoverish even more people.

Hillary Clinton is a warmonger at a time when we need leaders who will fight for peace and disarmament; beating swords into plowshares so we can fund the solutions to the problems of the people should be at the very top of any honest politician's agenda and yet this is not even so much as mentioned by these politicians perverting the meaning of the word "progressive" as they peddle lie after lie in order to get the votes as they steal the rest of the votes they need to win--- by hook and by crook is what these Democrats and Republicans are all about and we are their victims so long as we refuse to break free from this two-party trap.

Socialism needs to be placed on the people's political agenda as an alternative to Wall Street's deadly course placing all humanity on the verge of extinction as poverty becomes a way of life for more and more people.

What a rotten stinking mess we are mired up to our necks in because we allow the Wall Street crowd to control and manipulate us with their little circus of donkeys and elephants complete with political clowns.

Notice: FaceBook has prevented me from logging into my FaceBook Account to make posts on my personal page.

FaceBook has retaliated against me because I am one of the Administrators of a page that has exposed widespread corruption on the Leech Lake Indian Reservation by publishing the documents proving the corruption.

FaceBook removed the documents from this page even though the documents are of the nature of being public records and the corruption includes the misuse of tribal funds along with state and federal funds.

For my part, I will not back down from supporting the publication of the documents FaceBook has removed.

The internet is supposed to be a way for such corruption to be brought to light for all to see.

Once again, Rocky Anderson, the former Mayor of Salt Lake City and the lackluster presidential candidate of the Justice Party who turned in a most embarassing vote total has turned to attacking me... and this is my response to him and members of the Justice Party.

My suggestion would be that we move on in organizing the Justice Party without Rocky Anderson since he and his arrogant multi-millionaire friend, Jonathan Ruga, along with a small group of right wing libertarians, have been the primary obstacles to moving forward in building the Justice Party as a viable progressive party.

We have seen how Rocky Anderson supported Bernie Sanders only to have Bernie Sanders come out and say he will be voting for Hillary Clinton who Rocky Anderson claims he could never support.

Rocky Anderson is responsible for sowing dissension in the Justice Party as a means to prevent it from moving forward.
We don't need Rocky Anderson, Jonathan Ruga or their small band of libertarians, some of whom have openly aligned themselves with KKK's David Duke and others with the Israeli Zionists perpetrating a campaign of genocide against the Palestinian people.

Rocky Anderson has demonstrated a complete unwillingness to work in a way that fosters the kind of unity required to build a new progressive political party.

In fact, in the past, Rocky Anderson has arrogantly stated he expects the rest of us to do his "heavy lifting" as if the Justice Party centers around him and not the quest for peace, social and economic justice as was originally intended.

Instead of putting forward his reactionary anti-working class views in a forum for debate, which includes opposition to the government being responsible for attaining and maintaining full employment, he has put forward the view that full employment is a mere goal and objective of government rather than a responsibility of government while acting like a Democrat in trying to stifle dialog and discussion.

Making the president and Congress responsible for attaining and maintaining full employment with programs and projects financed by beating swords into plowshares has always been central to a progressive agenda.

Rocky Anderson, Jonathan Ruga and their little band of libertarians should be told to take a hike.

If Rocky Anderson is going to attack me for bringing forward for consideration in the Justice Party's Platform, full employment; who will his next target be?

I point out that I am a former member of the Justice Party's National Steering Committee

Bernie Sanders says he will vote for Hillary Clinton... but, will you vote for Wall Street's candidate?

Why would Bernie Sanders support Hillary Clinton when the majority of those who gave their support to him don't want to vote for Hillary Clinton?

This demonstrates a complete lack of respect and an arrogance that is mind-boggling on Bernie Sanders behalf towards those who went all out to support him thinking he was going to take on Wall Street only to have him turn around and support Wall Street's main candidate: Hillary Clinton.

This leaves us to wonder if both Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders aren't ringers being used by Wall Street in order to trick us into believing we have choices when we really don't.

And the media, again, owned by Wall Street, has very cleverly manipulated the coverage of all three candidates with no toleration of any discussion about the need for a new political party similar to Canada's socialist New Democratic Party.

Might one of these 1,800 billionaires be your next door neighbor?

New Rankings: The Richest People in America (And What They’re Doing that You’re Not)

By MONEY MORNING STAFF REPORTS

http://moneymorning.com/acq/frontrunners/new-rankings-the-richest-people-in-america-and-what-theyre-doing-that-youre-not?advText=yes&ad=za1a-nrfarb-p4&iris=522029

Forbes just released their annual report on the richest people. And there’s only one real surprise on the list.

1,810 billionaires made this year’s World’s Billionaires List, with a total net worth of $6.48 trillion, down from $7.05 trillion last year. Altogether, 221 former billionaires dropped out of the rankings, while 198 newcomers joined for the first time.

Bill Gates is the front runner with a $75 billion net worth. Close behind him is Amancio Ortega with $67 billion, and Warren Buffett with a whopping $60.8 billion.

Hedge Fund Managers, George Soros and Carl Icahn fall in at numbers 23 and 43, with $24.5 billion and $17 billion respectively.

You may be asking yourself right now, “What investments are making these guys so rich?”
Or, “What are they doing that I’m not?”

We actually may have an answer for you…

Money Morning’s Executive Editor, Bill Patalon, is, for the first time ever, releasing his research on a group of 7,524 millionaires and billionaire hedge fund managers who are legally able to move stock prices.

As you’re about to see, with $2.3 trillion in collective buying power, this group has more wealth and political sway than most small countries.

They’ve recently seen prices jump by as much as 300%, 1,135% and 1,400% in just six months.

Most of us wouldn’t touch these stocks…

They’re buying shares in companies like Celator, Energy Recovery and Uni-Pixel, all of which have already gone up nearly 500% in a matter of months.

Since his research started, Bill has been referred to as “The World’s Greatest Stock Picker,” roping in 2-3 double and triple-digit peak gain winners every month.

Bill has not released his research to the public.

Eliminate the national debt by nationalizing the banks.

So; the political discourse now centers on the national debt according to Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.

But, neither one talks about how the Wall Street bankers get rich off of our debt--- whether it is the debt from home loans, college tuition, to pay for roads and highways of the national debt accumulated for financing these dirty imperialist wars.

Our debt is Wall Street's profits.

There is only one way to eliminate this debt; any of this debt; all of this debt:

Nationalize the banks and seize their assets with these assets used to fund a national public banking system to finance human needs.

The Wall Street bankers are criminals even if they are too big to prosecute; but their assets are just the right size to seize to compensate us for all their dirty criminal deeds.

Don't fall into the trap of breaking up the banks when the solution is to nationalize them and bring them under public ownership.

We can see what happened when Ma Bell was broken up into bits and pieces--- workers were given the shaft and consumers are being ripped off while the same Wall Street crowd who still owns all the smaller entities laughs--- all the way to the bank.

Nationalization under public ownership is the solution to "too big to fail" for workers and consumers.

Forgo the prosecutions of the bankers for their criminal deeds; just reclaim the wealth that is rightly ours which these bankers have stolen from us with the connivance of the politicians..

What are we voting for?

So, stopping Trump is the only thing this election boils down to now? What's the choice? War or war?

Poverty or poverty? Lies or lies? Corruption or corruption? Wall Street's agenda or Wall Street's agenda?

I would like the opportunity to vote for a "21st Century Full Employment Act for Peace and Prosperity."

I would like to be able to cast my vote for beating swords into plowshares.

I would like to be able to vote for nationalizing the banks and creating a national public bank with outlets in every post office.

Militarism and wars from the Democrats and Republicans

The greatest stress is being placed on the economy by Wall Street's Military-Industrial Complex with is wasteful spending on militarism and wars.

It just so happens that this same Wall Street Military-Industrial Complex leaves behind the largest carbon footprint when it comes to global warming and climate change...

Maybe we should be talking about "killing two birds with one stone?"

Why did the organizers of the People's Summit refuse to make this available to all participants and attendees?

Where is the movement?

Did you watch Bernie Sanders' speech that was live-streamed last night?

Obviously he is preparing to toss in the towel and throw his support to Hillary Clinton under the guise of defeating Trump and the Republicans.

But, why do we want to defeat Trump? Isn't the reason because we don't like, nor want, Wall Street's thoroughly reactionary agenda of wars abroad paid for with austerity measures shoved down our throats?

Well, Hillary Clinton is offering the same agenda... no more benign than Trumps.

Now, let us face reality. Bernie Sanders has built no movement. He would like us to believe he will take a stand in defense of his very dubious twelve point program and platform at the Democratic Party's National Convention but how will he do this with only a few delegates who will be vastly outnumbered?

This is no movement... not a movement capable of winning reforms; certainly not capable of ending these dirty imperialist wars nor stopping new ones from being started by Trump or Hillary. There is no movement for socialism which is required here and now in order to save the planet and improve the lives of working people and working class families caught up in this "Cost-of-Living Crisis" neither Sanders nor his "movement" nor Hillary Clinton have broached.

There is no talk about legislating a "21st Century Full-Employment Act for Peace and Prosperity" along the lines advocated by Congressman Wright Patman nor William Winpisinger, the socialist trade union leader, that would necessitate "beating swords into plowshares" so we could put millions to work solving the problems of the people like a National Public Health Care System which would create some twelve-million new jobs or the badly needed National Public Child Care System creating over three-million new jobs both publicly funded, publicly administered and publicly delivered without the greedy hands of private profiteers in the public trough.

We need an anti-monopoly/anti-imperialist, anti-capitalist and pro-socialist people's party based in the working class motivated to solve the problems of working people and with the intent, not to regulate Wall Street, but challenge Wall Street for political and economic power.

Our class and all humanity along with our planet cannot survive under capitalism in the near term so let us stop talking about socialism as if it is something many years down the road--- we must get our country onto the socialist road now, not later. This is a question of survival.

Working people require many reforms in order to solve pressing problems but socialism should not be tabled in order to wage a struggle for reforms--- the struggles for reforms are urgent and the struggle for socialism is urgent. There is no need to fight for one or the other when we should be struggling on both fronts simultaneously. Anyone advocating anything less is confusing and misleading people while putting us at risk.

I wouldn't expect the well-heeled muddle-headed upper middle class intellectuals who don't have to suffer the pain of a toothache because they can't afford to go to a dentist to understand any of this.

Only when grassroots and rank-and-file working class activists experiencing these pressing problems take the initiative to organize real movements for the kind of change we need in our neighborhoods, where we work and where we go to school will we begin to empower the working class... class action power is what this struggle is all about.

Wall Street comes to the "rescue" of Puerto Rico with HR 4900.

Wall Street is coming to the "rescue" of Puerto Rico the same way it came to the rescue of Detroit with a little added bonus for Wall Street employers including raiding the pension funds and lowering the Minimum Wage to $4.25 an hour:

http://naturalresources.house.gov/uploadedfiles/hr_4900_promesa.pdf

I wonder how our great free media missed this one?

Here is Congressman Paul Ryan's take on another imperialist (mis) adventure:

http://www.speaker.gov/press-release/statement-puerto-rico-legislation

More injustices enforced by the United States government with tax-payers picking up the tab to keep Puerto Ricans subjugated through a "benevolent" and uniquely American brand of colonialism passed off as "humanitarian" assistance.

I wonder if the FBI, CIA and the U.S. Marines and U.S. Navy are going to be able to handle the rebellion which is sure to follow?

I wonder how the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Foreign Affairs Magazine and the rest of our great free media so adept at passing off big lies as the truth will explain all of this?

I would point out that only Cuba has been able to get out from under the heel of U.S; imperialism since the Spanish American War--- a war we have been paying for since 1898--- anyone think imperialist wars come cheap?

It is almost unbelievable in this day and age there is any government on the face of the earth with so much arrogance in bringing forward such legislation; but, considering that Puerto Rico was one of the first American attempts at "nation building" (for other countries) I guess we shouldn't be surprised to find the United States Congress now considering this kind of thoroughly reactionary austerity measures for its oldest colony which Wall Street employers have used as one of its primary sources of cheap labor... although the Haiti experiment is proving to be much more promising when it comes to raking in maximum profits through exploitation fostered by the great philanthropists like Bill and Hillary Clinton whose foundation is blazing new trails for greater profitability for the sweatshop industries...

after all, don't ya know--- lower wages is what the chase for bigger profits is all about.

Oh, wait!

At least one voice in our great free media has ventured forth with an ever so "enlightened" opinion on the risk of having too high of a Minimum Wage in Puerto Rico:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/puerto-ricos-lesson-for-the-mainland/2015/07/08/24e63970-25ad-11e5-b77f-eb13a215f593_story.html

Now, where are the organized anti-imperialist voices here in the United States?

Which way for the New Democratic Party in Canada?

There is a lot of controversy surrounding recent developments in the New Democratic Party in Canada.

I lived in Manitoba for ten years until I was deported because of my political views after the Liberal government joined the right wing in attacking me.

At the present time, I am a member of the Lake-of-the Woods Communist Club, one of three co-chairs of the club which has members from Minnesota, Manitoba and Ontario. Members of our club have been very involved in the NDP and our club had members at the recent NDP meeting.

There are those making the outrageous claim that the NDP is a "social democratic party."

This was my response to one person making this claim: Wrong. Dead wrong, Andy Span.

The New Democratic Party is not a social democratic party.

The NDP includes all views from the left... and beyond... or, at least it should.

Social democrats should go start their own party if they want an exclusively social democratic party.
But, this wouldn't solve any problems, either.

The NDP would be severely weakened should the social democrats withdraw; but, the social democrats are going to have to learn to be respectful of the views of others.

There is no proof that the Leap Manifesto won't gain tremendous traction with the vast majority of working class Canadians. Why would anyone oppose it being debated and discussed. These debates and discussion will bring new life into the NDP.

The most successful provincial NDP government of all time in Canada was led by Howard Pawley in Manitoba and he had an open door to all of the entire left... and most others willing to work with him for the common good.

I would suggest everyone take a few deep breaths and read Howard Pawley's excellent book, "Keep True, My Life in Politics."

The NDP paid a very heavy price for Bob Rae's treacherous betrayal (and I was very involved in helping get this guy elected as the first NDP premier of Ontario) and the NDP is paying a very heavy price for making a substantial part of the left in Canada feel like they have no home in the NDP because there are those who try to pigeon hole the NDP as a social democratic party.

Tom Mulcair started coming to his senses in his later speeches in Toronto but it was too little, too late.
Buying into this crap about the need for "baby steps" and "incremental reforms" is sure to doom the NDP.

Tommy Douglas, from his deathbed, urged the NDP and all Canadians to take up the task of struggling and fighting for fully socialized health care and if we examine this issue as a way to look at most other struggles for required reforms we can do so by asking a very simple question concerning the right to have dental care included as part of health care:

Would you vote for any politician who didn't care if you have a toothache and can't afford to get dental care?

Working people have very serious problems from poverty wages to lack of child care (and what is with this "affordable child care crap" when child care should be universal through a public system and free for all? Is this too much for the well-heeled crowd of social democrats to comprehend?

And why don't the social democrats like Mulcair want to talk about a Minimum Wage that is tied to actual cost of living factors which would bring in a Minimum Wage of just over $20.00 an hour for a forty hour work week?

Or, what is the position of the social democrats when it comes to a Basic Income Guarantee which worked so well as an experiment in Dauphin, Manitoba when the NDP forced the Liberals to fund the experiment?

When it comes to health care, child care, unemployment, Minimum Wages, the cost of higher education--- "baby steps" and "incremental reforms" are not what the severe problems working class families confront need... a giant Leap forward is required and it is time for the NDP to bring forward some kind of program and platform to make the multi-national corporations which have been raping the land of resources pay for it all.

I have traveled and met with Canadians in every single province and a point of great unity is that Canadians are sick and tired of U.S. and other multi-national corporations taking everything they can grab while leaving nothing behind to improve the lives of the people and this theft has been carried out in a way that has left tremendous damage to the environment.

As far as the oil in Alberta... bring these oil fields under public ownership like the NDP originally believed in doing. Then take a look at the situation and decide how to proceed. Again, this is foreign multi-nationals raking in huge profits at the expense of the Canadian people while doing great harm to the environment. Cut out the huge corporate profits and perhaps an environmentally sound way can be found to manage the production of oil. In the long run as the oil industry is going in Alberta it would be cheaper to just halt it right now because the mess that is being made is going to end up costing a lot more than what is being gained right now.

What gave the social democrats the right to use bullying tactics to replace the demand for public ownership of the mines, mills, factories and entire industries like banking, communications and energy with this coddling of private industry--- domestic and foreign--- while pushing higher taxes on the working class?

And why would Mulcair seek to ally the NDP with Obama's neo-liberal Wall Street Democrats as a way to appease Bay Street instead of seeking out allies from among the working class?

The social democrats who have bullied their way into the NDP while trampling on democracy insisting that the NDP be a social democratic party have been very selfish and their selfishness cost the NDP an election victory that was there for the taking.

The NDP should have gone to Canadian with a plan to reduce the retirement age to 60; free universal child care; free public education through university; tax the hell out of the foreign multi-nationals; for a socialized health care system that includes everything from pre-natal through burial... and a commitment to pull out of NATO and end all complicity with U.S. imperialist wars and a promise to raise the Minimum Wage to at least $20.00 an hour while outlining a strategy to put an end to the cost-of-living crisis every single working class family in Canada is experiencing.

The base of the NDP must be the working class and farmers along with real small businesses and professionals.

The Manitoba NDP put a full dental program into every single elementary school and the Conservatives and Liberals killed that program--- as Manitobans today how they like paying for private dental care for their children.

Manitoba had a provincially owned and operated telephone system providing Manitobans with the least expensive phone service in North America... the Conservatives and Liberals connived together to kill this... ask Manitobans how they like paying through the nose for private for-profit telephone service today.

The NDP government took over bus manufacturing in Manitoba saving hundreds of jobs; the company was doing just great. The company was sold to a foreign multi-national after being subsidized by Manitoba tax-payers.

Manitoba has government owned casinos... the profits go for health care and education not into the pockets of Las Vegas mobsters. And Manitoba's casinos were among the first to go smoke-free to protect the health of its workers and the general public.

Because of the fight led by Howard Pawley, Manitoba has a provincially owned auto insurance program. I don't hear many people other than the Conservatives and few of the more die-hard free-enterprise Liberals complaining.

The NDP should be for public ownership not just out of some old principle articulated in a Marxist pamphlet but because public ownership works better for the people than private ownership in most cases.

The strength of the NDP has always been that all views from the left are always welcome... and not just those with left wing view but those with liberal and progressive world outlooks, too; and this is the way it should remain.

I want to point out that in Manitoba, the NDP always got along with Communists like Jacob Penner and Joe Zuken... in fact, the NDP took the initiative to name a public park after Jacob Penner.

And Jacob Penner's son became an outstanding Minnesota Attorney General.

I counted Howard Pawley among one of my best friends and we got along just fine even though we had some differences on some issues.

My suggestion is that the problems should be articulated and a common approach should be found to solving these problems in a way that works best for the working class.

Tom Mulcair and his social democrats are just going to have to learn to live with the fact that working people want their problems solved now--- while they are still alive, not later after they die.

These are very important developments now taking place in the New Democratic Party and there will be much for everyone to learn.

My experience with for-profit capitalist dental care.

I went to the dentist today.

I am "covered" by an insurance outfit called, "Health Partners" which operates a Health and Dental Clinic in White Bear Lake, Minnesota.

After having a bunch of teeth pulled; now they tell me I need something called a "deep cleaning and planing." The cost: $1,200.00. And they say this isn't covered under my plan.

And they told me they won't even fill my three cavities until I have this done. What a neat way to get out of providing the care needed... thus saving them a lot of money at my expense and at the expense of my health.

And then these bastards wonder why people are getting angry.

I told them I couldn't afford that so they told me to call the University of Minnesota's School of Dentistry.

The School of dentistry told me they would do it for about $900.00.

I told them that I couldn't afford that.

Their response--- and I quote exactly word for word:

"Too bad; you will just have to wait until you can come up with the money."

So much for health care under capitalism...

Just wait until you can come up with the money... it is all about money, money, money... or, to put it more succinctly: Profits! Profits! Profits!

Everything under this rotten capitalist system is driven by sheer greed in quest of the almighty dollar.

Here is the solution and it is very simple:

A National Public Health Care System.

General health, eyes, ears, dental, family planning and mental health... pre-natal to death. Everyone in; nobody left out. Health care provided based on need not how much you can pay.

Put all of the doctors and dentists and optometrists on the public payroll just like teachers and pay them the same thing. Provide them with a free education so they don't have to cry for forty years about how much they spent for college in spite of becoming multi-millionaires.

Public funding and financing instead of paying for these dirty rotten imperialist wars.

Public administration of the entire system.

Public delivery.

A public health care center in every neighborhood and community instead of wasting our tax-dollars on over 800 military bases on foreign soil protecting Wall Street's interests and investments with profits derived from exploiting cheap labor and raping Mother Nature.

The hell with wasting any more time on this single-payer crap... even the Canadian health care system doesn't cover dental work.

We need to work up a national struggle for socialized health care... a National Public Health Care System that is no more controversial than public education.

The for-profit health care system has failed miserably... except for those who profit.

Tell the Democrats to stick it where the sun don't shine.

Has anyone noticed a very interesting development that has been taking place in Wisconsin, the home of the most right-wing reactionary Republican governor in the United States, over the last month?

The Democrats--- including Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders and all of these millionaire labor leaders--- have made Wisconsin the focus of their attention with more political activity than in the past than over the past six years during Scott Walkers term as governor of Wisconsin...

And they expect all of us to drop everything we are doing, including taking days off from work!

To do what? Campaign for Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders.

Now, here is my question...

Actually two questions:

1. How come these millionaire labor leaders did not exert the same efforts and marshal the same resources to support the militant initiatives of the rank-and-file working class and grassroots activists who took to the streets, occupied the Wisconsin State Capitol and were preparing for a general strike to halt Scott Walker, the Republicans and the Koch Family bosses in their tracks as they destroyed the standard of living of millions by taking away the collective bargaining rights of public employee unions?

And, two...

Why weren't the same efforts and resources brought into the struggle to recall Scott Walker after the Democrats and their millionaire labor leaders friends pushed workers out of the streets and sabotaged their efforts that were leading towards a general strike by making people believe they would spare no efforts at getting a political solution through recalling Scott Walker?

And, the non-struggle position of the Greens who set up separate rallies because the millionaire labor leaders and their Democratic Party allies and friends didn't want their participation in the labor movement; so, instead of fighting for their right to participate in a UNITED struggle, the Greens took the cowardly way out of non-struggle.

All of this begs the question:

Why should workers waste their time and limited resources working for any of these worthless Democrats, of which we now know for certain Bernie Sanders is one of them.

Vote for whoever you want...

But put your efforts and resources into building a new working class based people's party that will finally challenge Wall Street and its two political parties for political and economic power.

The most successful alternative party in the United States has been the socialist Minnesota Farmer-Labor Party which called for the creation of the "cooperative socialist commonwealth" which would have brought the mines, mills, factories, banks, communications and energy industries under public ownership and control--- something this phony socialist Bernie Sanders and his long time "democratic socialist" colleagues are determined not to talk about just like they have determined they will not place on the table and before the people in the public square the need to beat swords into plowshares as the way to peace and a full employment economy.

We need an anti-monopoly/anti-imperialist working class movement of which this new party would be an integral component...

This is what movement building is all about.

And we can't build this movement if we are allowing the Democrats to drain our strength and monopolize our limited resources.

Bernie Sanders and the current labor unions in the grip of these millionaire labor leaders have the resources to tell the Democrats to go to hell but they are not going to do this.

This initiative needs to come from rank-and-file and grassroots activists.

Why are we delaying taking the required action?

All that is required are small circles of friends in each and every state and in the cities and communities around the country.

We know this is possible because of the huge turnouts for Bernie Sanders from among the working class.

Bernie Sanders has now openly stated his intent to betray his base of very enthusiastic socialist supporters as he declared in Wisconsin just last week that Democrats must come together to defeat the Republicans. This is not a program for change. Supporting Democrats has proven not to be of any benefit for workers and working class families. All we end up with is Wall Street wars paid for with austerity measures shoved down our throats which deprives us of real solutions to our very real a very pressing problems--- jobs for all at living wages and livable incomes, be they wages, unemployment compensation, welfare or Social Security, child care and free quality public education through university and the kind of world-class National Public Health Care System we are entitled to after having created with our labor the wealthiest country in the world the likes of which has never been seen before.

Where were Bernie Sanders, Hillary Clinton, Obama, the Democrats and the millionaire labor leaders when Wisconsin needed their organization and resources to get rid of Scott Walker?

As far as being so afraid of these Republicans like Donald Trump?

Tens of thousands of workers are forced to work in his casinos and hotels every single day and I have yet to hear one single Democrat or millionaire labor leader say that he is not fit to be an employer and his hotels and casinos should be taken away from him and placed under public ownership using eminent domain for the public good with the profits derived from these enterprises used for the health and welfare of all of us.

And Hillary Clinton and her Wal-mart friends are no better than Donald Trump or the Koch Klan.

This is a class thing.

This is all about CLASS STRUGGLE.

Politics is about class struggle.

Isn't it time we as working people start to talk about the politics and economic of livelihood?

Capitalism is collapsing all around us. Wall Street's wars are every continent creating massive human misery. Other people are being bombed when our own needs are going unmet.

We have "leaders" who will boast of having signed on to the United Nations' Universal Declaration of Human Rights but won't come up with the resources to make these words filling one sheet of paper a living reality for the living, breathing human beings who they expect to cough up votes to legitimize this rotten system.

Is there anyone else who feels like I do willing to sign on to a statement calling for creating a new working class based political party?

Canadian workers have their own political party--- the socialist New Democratic Party. It's late great past leader, Tommy Douglas, has been recognized in a poll involving millions conducted by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, as the "greatest Canadian of all time." Shouldn't this tell us something?

And Canadians can walk into any doctor's office or hospital and get the care they require without every having to pay one single penny let alone have their home taken away to cover the bill.

"Baby steps" and "incremental reforms" are the words of the uncaring, muddle-headed, upper middle class crowd of intellectual Democrats who don't have to worry about how to make ends meet and who have no concept of what is involved in this "cost-of-living crisis" now dogging every single working class family; we don't have to put up with this crap. Life is two short. There is no reason we should have to struggle just to survive.

We need the kind of organizations and a party that will enable us to take a giant leap forward comparable to what the wealth of our society--- which our labor has created--- will provide.
