Peace activists shouldn’t get caught up in any debates about what weapons and weapon systems are “obsolete.”

I find it ironic Trump likes to bash Obama for weakening the U.S. military but Trump continues to implement Obama’s (and Bush’s, and Clinton’s and Bush’s and Reagan’s and Carter’s and Ford’s and Nixon’s and Johnson’s, and Kennedy’s and Eisenhower’s and Truman’s) military build up... all at the expense of world peace and financing human needs.

I don’t think it helps to get involved in arguments concerning what weapons/weapon systems are “obsolete.”

We need to focus on ending militarism and wars along with demanding a sane foreign policy based on getting along with the rest of the world.

We should be pushing for a huge “Peace Dividend” as the way to properly and adequately finance health care, housing, infrastructure and public education, etc.

Capitalism in its “advanced” barbaric stage of imperialism is what is “obsolete” especially given the consequences of nuclear war/nuclear winter.

Marx pointed out long ago that when a Nation uses its wealth to finance militarism and wars that Nation might just as well take the wealth and dump it into the deepest depths of the oceans for all the good it does.

Talking about which weapons systems are obsolete is a trap.

Our concern as socialists should be with mobilizing the people against militarism and wars not trying to determine what weapons are obsolete. 

Every single weapon in the arsenal of the imperialists is a weapon that is not needed.

Capitalism is the system of the warmongers who profit from militarism and wars while saddling the people with the horrible costs of militarism and wars.

Socialism is a system of peace, social and economic justice. Socialism requires an end to militarism and wars.

Capitalism breeds wars.

Socialism flourishes with peace.

Just compare the foreign policy objectives and goals of the United States and China to understand this. Jimmy Carter understands the problem; why don’t the rest of the politicians?

All of this China bashing has now turned into Trump’s provocations that could very likely lead to nuclear war as he sends out three aircraft carrier strike groups as Trump continues with Obama’s plan to build ten more thirty-billion dollar plus aircraft carriers to try to dominate the world and bring an end to China’s peaceful progress.

Joe Biden is also bashing China.

More than ever, we need a huge anti-imperialist peace movement determined to find a new foreign policy which will enable us to live in peace and cooperation with the rest of the world while reordering the priorities of our country away from militarism and wars and towards meeting the needs of the people.

From the socialist Karl Marx to the liberal economist John Kenneth Galbraith... there is unanimous agreement among economists that you can’t have “guns and butter.” Any economists saying otherwise are nothing but frauds and scam artists- apologists for the Wall Street merchants of death and destruction.

The issue of war and peace will be decided in the streets of this country when the American people finally decide once and for all to shut down this horrible and terribly costly war machine.

Right now Social Security is structured to enforce poverty.

And this injustice is made even worse by forcing pensioners to pay $144.00 a month for Medicare Part B which still requires very high-priced supplemental insurance which still doesn’t cover many medical procedures.

Medicare should cover 100% of all medical including dental, vision and hearing. 

We have paid enough into the Social Security and Medicare systems during our working years to more than cover our health care and provide for real living incomes in our retirement years.

That Democrats and the advocates of Medicare for All refuse to address the need for these reforms shows they are merely using our problems as campaign gimmicks with no intent to bring about real change...

Perhaps these politicians in Washington would take us seniors more seriously if we joined the youth out in the streets... apparently taking to the streets gets you more than the vote does.

What we need is a National Public Health Care System to replace this hideous free-market profit-driven health care system.

Publicly funded.

Trump gets the kind of socialized health care he denies to us.

Trump is getting the best socialized health care our tax dollars can provide for him but he denies the same health care to the rest of us under the guise of opposing socialism.

He will have no deductions and no co-pays and he doesn’t even have to pay for any over-priced supplemental insurance.

Trump’s health care is being:

Publicly funded.

Publicly administered.

Publicly delivered.

It’s amazing how Trump boasts that this socialized health care is providing him with “the best quality health care available in the entire world.”

Once again, socialism is good for the rich, who can better afford to pay their own way (remember how they lecture us about how there are no “free lunches”) but the rest of us have to pay through the nose for health insurance or file for medical bankruptcies... I guess Trump never considered using bankruptcy to take care of his health care costs like he has conveniently done when he doesn’t want to pay employees for the work they have done.

So, socialized health care works great for Trump but the rest of us are supposed to settle for the capitalist market-driven for-profit health care system from which Trump and his Wall Street buddies reap huge profits.

Doesn’t this sound like... well, you know; like a bit of hypocrisy?

And Biden, with all of his obvious health problems, if elected will receive this same highest quality health care in the world... the very socialized health care he opposes, too.

I wonder if Trump even pays for Medicare Part B?

Are these politicians making fools of us, or what?

It should be obvious to everyone by now we are all entitled to health care provided through a National Public Health Care System based on the model of public education... the kind of health care available at Walter Reed Medical Center.

Instead of over 850 military based dotting the globe protecting Wall Street’s interests... why not have 850 community health care centers around the country providing every American with the same kind of health care Trump says is the best health care in the world... this would be a welcome Peace Dividend which we are all entitled to.

Biden supporter Adam Bram responds:

I appreciate the intent, but this isn't something I can support. I consider myself to be Progressive, but I think there is a simpler, much more doable way to solve the problems you wish to solve. That said, I strongly support your first point: Universal Basic Income. However, it's the other points I do not.

Instead of canceling all student debt, fund a UBI. If you have college debt, you can use the UBI to pay off the debt. You can use the UBI to save for college if you wish. The Democrats lost seats because non-college-educated voters feel ignored, and I get it. If someone didn't go to college or if someone already paid off their college debt, it will anger them to see others who have their debt erased. UBI is a way of avoiding that mistrust while still helping everyone with whatever their respective economic troubles are. 

Additionally, UBI avoids the need to increase the minimum wage, which can be hard on small businesses. A UBI gives enough income to make the minimum wage increase unnecessary. It creates a situation where some people might not need to work, freeing up jobs for those who do. That naturally drives wages up without mandating a minimum wage increase.

Lastly, if we have a UBI, an additional social security increase is not needed.

I may get pushback on this, and that is fine. But if we want real change in this country, it has to be pragmatic.

And I answer him:

Adam Bram I suggest you organize a separate national effort for UBI. I’m curious though, in your lengthy comment, you don’t say if you support our specific demand what UBI should be; why not?

Obviously you aren’t “living” on these miserly monthly Social Security checks.

Do you work for a living? I ask this since you seem to put yourself arrogantly aloof from the problems being experienced by most working class families in claiming your opposition is based on “pragmatism.”

This entire four point program would cost would cost only a very small fraction of what the United States government has spent over the last twelve years bailing out Wall Street’s filthy rich who just happen to be the employers of most of us.

You talk about “pragmatism” but ignore the simple fact the working class has created this tremendous wealth while being pushed into poverty.

Working people are ENTITLED to what we are advocating here.

I sent this message to Texas Governor Greg Abbott this morning; I would encourage you to contact his office if you haven’t done so before; or, if you have contacted him previously concerning the case of Rodney Reed please do so again because out of sight is out of mind.

Many of the people from ordinary Texans and people across the country along with clergy and union leaders who have contacted you concerning the case of Rodney Reed, have done so at my request.

I’m sure as a politician you understand the power of people talking to one another... like me, most people talk the most when we are not happy about something going on.

You spend a lot of money creating an image for yourself... what people say can travel a long way and end up costing a lot more money trying to put shine on that image. You might want to consider this.

What is racism in the criminal justice system in this country?

Well, let’s look at two very real examples:

The Minnesota Attorney General says it is very difficult to get a murder conviction on a cop and cites the case of George Floyd where everyone saw the cop murder George Floyd on video.

Now look at the case of Rodney Reed. Here we have an innocent black man framed for murder in Texas by racist cops, racist prosecutors, racist judges and racist Attorney Generals who used this case to pander to a bunch of racists in order to get elected to the United States Senate and Texas Governor.

Why is it so easy to frame an innocent poor working class black man for murder and sentence him to death but it becomes difficult to convict a racist cop who intentionally murders a black man?

Isn’t this the problem of racism which needs to be openly discussed in this country?

And then we have people asking:

Why didn’t someone stop this racist cop from murdering George Floyd?

The other side of this coin is this question:

Who is going to stop the racist execution- the murder- of Rodney Reed?

There are those in power in this country who have opportunistically condemned the murder of George Floyd because they think this condemnation will shield them from the criticism they deserve for hiring these racist cops... yet, these same people in positions of power who could stop the execution of an innocent black man like Rodney Reed wring their hands and say there is nothing they can do; is it true they can do nothing to prevent an innocent man from being executed? If so, what, more, does this tell us about the criminal justice system in this country?

What kind of criminal justice system do we have in this country where on the one hand it is very difficult to convict a cop of murder who has been caught on camera murdering a black man but can’t figure out how to free an innocent black man who has been framed by racist cops and a racist criminal justice system? 

And what kind of “free media” do we have which refuses to put these kinds of questions in perspective before the American people?

Is there a “conspiracy” taking place in this country when it comes to militarism and wars, the climate issue, the coronavirus and health care reform, the Minimum Wage, etc?


What would you call it when hundreds of billionaires acting in collusion through their foundation-funded think-tanks all exert pressure on the government through the politicians they bribe to do everything they can to enable these billionaires to make the greatest profits at the expense of us common people and the planet?

About Earth Day and how it’s original intent has been co-opted by these billionaires. How does this happen if not by conspiracy? Is it a coincidence that these billionaires line up so consistently against the majority of the people... our rights, our livelihoods and our living environment?


I wonder how it would be viewed by these billionaires should us common people organize with such unity around our rights, our livelihoods and the right to work and live in a healthy and safe environment? I bet they would make such unity illegal.


Oh, wait; they have made our right to organize to protect our rights and our livelihoods and our living environment illegal... they call these laws things like “Taft-Hartley,” the “Communist Control Act,” “Right to Work,” “At-Will Employment” and all kinds of Executive Orders from Trump giving these billionaires the right to pollute and contaminate our living environment- the water we drink, the air we breathe and the land our food is grown on.


If there isn’t a conspiracy of the billionaires, what might this be called? Capitalism?

Business gets its "free lunch" but workers arestill waiting for their checks.

So, my Congressman says he “doesn’t have time” to find out why every single person who hasn’t received their promised “$1,200.00 stimulus check” hasn’t received one.


I’m guessing there will be millions of people entitled to a check that will never receive their check and there will be no means of accountability...


Just like we will never know who got what with the trillions of dollars doled out to the banks and businesses...

But, WE will end up paying for all this “free money” being doled out to the banks and businesses who are opposed to government “doles.”


You better believe we are going to be paying through the nose for all this “free money” the government is doling out to the banks and businesses.


I notice none of these bankers and business people are complaining “there is no such thing as a free lunch.”

China is our friend, not our enemy; Wall Street is our common enemy.

I mentioned this poll although I had not had the chance to read it.


I will be responding to this poll on my blog over the months ahead and throughout this campaign which will attempt to drag the American people into a new era of intense McCarthyism further eroding democracy while threatening world peace.


This poll pretty much outlines that anti-China hate Trump (and the Republicans) and Biden (and the Democrats) will be spewing during this 2020 campaign as they beat the drums of war.

The racist hate campaign against China goes back over one-hundred years in this country and the anti-Communist and red-baiting hate campaign go back to the 1940’s and the 1950’s as the sensible and sane voices of reason were driven out of the U.S. State Department and all government positions regarding foreign affairs as the media was drawn into this never-ending anti-China hate bashing campaign. Then we had the left-wing kicked out of the labor movement by a bunch of millionaire labor leaders more loyal to the Wall Street bosses than the workers who paid union dues; and these labor leaders joined the bosses in attacking China.


And I would point out that the heavily degreed intellectuals in academia are responsible for spewing this anti-China poison as they have dutifully served their corporate masters in churning out this anti-China/anti-Communist poison non-stop with lie after big lie being passed off as facts and truth.

Very sad to see George Galloway opposing any form of Basic Income Guarantee. But, he is an upper middle class intellectual who then talks about people who would just sit around on their sofa... like he has ever worked in a sweatshop. Of course his RT interviewer agreed with him... she just finds it offensive people don’t want to “work” like she has to.


This is why we need working people thinking and speaking for themselves.

Galloway says everyone who can work, should work even though he really has never experienced real work for himself... he might have a different view of the Basic Income Guarantee if he had to work nine or ten hours a day (Or more) six days a week in a sweatshop for which he was paid a poverty wage.

Socialism and China

I’m often asked what I think about socialism in China and whether or not I think China is socialist.


China is a big country with lots of people. Many people in China have different ideas about socialism.

I think China is socialist.


But three things really bother me about what I see from afar.


First; the Chinese have allowed their capitalist joint partners in enterprises to dominate too much power over workers in the workplace and have allowed and often enabled these capitalist joint partners to influence thinking without any push back.


Second; there is something wrong with promoting people in a socialist society to aspire to become millionaires and billionaires in the midst of so much poverty although on the other hand China has lifted more people out of poverty than any other country in human history through socialism.


Third; there is something wrong with any socialist country not having socialized health care. There is no excuse for China not having socialized health care.


As Jimmy Carter pointed out, China has built a modern society because it is not at war... a great big plus!


I’m confident Chinese workers will take care of their problems through socialism... we should consider doing the same.


Let China develop without imperialist threats and interference and socialism will flourish without limit.

Stop the China bashing!

My opinion is that Xi Jinping and the Chinese Communist Party are making great strides towards correcting the problems as they continue to build a just and democratic China.


Instead of all this China bashing we should be focused on creating a just and sane peaceful foreign policy working in cooperation with China.


I would encourage everyone to read the book, “China Hands,” to understand the sordid and corrupt modern history based on the most perverted reactionary anti-Communist Big Lies behind our own country’s foreign policy towards China.

I also find it very encouraging that Xi Jinping has encouraged all the people in China to take up the collective studying and discussion of the “Communist Manifesto;” because, as our own Frances Perkins who as Secretary of Labor responsible for shaping the New Deal reforms pointed out, the “Communist Manifesto” has many very important ideas contributing to building a socially just society and she said people should not be afraid to read it lest these good ideas remain on the pages of an old pamphlet.


So, like our own Constitution and Bill of Rights along with the United Nation’s Universal Declaration of Human Rights... the “Communist Manifesto” helps us shape the kind of movements required in our struggles for peace, against racism, and for socially and economically justice society.


Working people everywhere should be studying the “Communist Manifesto” right along with our fellow workers in China who need our solidarity, not this China bashing they are getting from Wall Street’s over-paid capitalist Sooth-Sayers passed off as pundits and bribed corrupt politicians.

Planet of the Humans... my review

Michael Moore has a great new movie out released for Earth Day concerning the hypocrisy of the foundation-funded “green movement.”

In my opinion the movie provides a lot for discussion but falls short.

Capitalism is a system that is not compatible with human needs or taking care of the planet.


It’s unfortunate this movie did not examine the complete carbon footprint of the Military-Industrial Complex, militarism and wars because the planet can sustain a society based along the lines of human needs but it can not sustain a society that includes militarism and wars.


This movie didn’t even consider the cost just in terms of the energy required by the Military-Industrial Complex let alone the huge carbon footprint required to rebuild in the aftermath of all these wars.

We can’t even begin dealing with climate change and global warming without taking up the need for peace and disarmament and the complete reordering of our country’s priorities away from militarism and wars and towards meeting the needs of the people in a rational way.


The hypocrisy of the “Green movement” entails a lot more than what this movie exposes.


If we had a planned economy, a cooperative socialist commonwealth... the socialism described by Albert Einstein, we could drastically reduce energy production and planning in a world St peace would be for far longer than seven generations:

The movie was critical of capitalism- to an extent- but it certainly did not bring forward the only alternative: socialism.

Socialism or extinction?
