World Water Day
This
Saturday, March 22 is World Water Day... here we are in Minnesota living
in the "land of ten thousand lakes" with every ditch, creek, stream,
river and lake polluted and a bunch of Democrats destroying the largest
freshwater aquifer in the "Lower Forty-Eight," the Big Bog, with peat
mining--- and getting ready to contaminate more of our northern waters
for centuries to come with sulfide mining.
So much for the way Minnesota politicians respect water.
How about we all get together to celebrate World Water Day on the shores of United States Steel's "Clearwater Reservoir" at their huge MinnTac operation in Mt. Iron?
Anyone up for a dip?
Anyone want to purchase "lake front property" on "Clearwater Reservoir?"

Do you know what's in the water you are drinking?

Democrats aim to get workers out of their hair, off their backs and out knocking on doors for them in time for 2016 Elections by pulling "bait and switch" all across the country
NYS Minimum Wage Coalition Welcomes Reported Agreement to Raise New York’s Minimum Wage
For Immediate Release: March 18, 2013Contact: Danny Massey, daniel@berlinrosen.com, (646) 200-5323
New York State Minimum Wage Coalition Welcomes Reported Agreement
to Raise New York’s Minimum Wage
$9.00 increase helps restore lost value of minimum
wage and will boost pay for 1.5 million New Yorkers, but is $1.2
billion smaller than under Assembly bill
New York, NY – Labor, community, religious and
policy groups from around the state welcomed today’s reported agreement
to increase in New York’s minimum wage, which will raise the state’s
minimum wage from $7.25 per hour to $9.00 per hour over the next three
years. With the reported increase, New York joins 19 other states that have raised their minimum wages above the current federal level of $7.25 per hour. The reported package reflected demands by Senate negotiators to slow down the pace of the increase and drop the future cost-of-living increases that the state Assembly approved two weeks ago. However, the agreement rejected loopholes for younger workers and tipped workers that Senate negotiators had been pushing.
“Speaker Silver and Governor Cuomo deserve tremendous credit for brokering this long overdue raise. It will mean less hardship for more than 1.5 million working New Yorkers, and begins the process of restoring the lost value of the state minimum wage,” said Paul Sonn, Legal Co-Director of the National Employment Law Project. “But the weaker package that the Senate demanded means New York’s neediest workers are receiving a $1.2 billion smaller raise than they would have.”
According to the Economic Policy Institute, raising New York's minimum wage to $9.00 per hour will benefit over 1.5 million New York workers — more than one in five workers in New York . The Fiscal Policy Institute estimates that increasing New York’s minimum wage to $9.00 per hour will generate more than $1.1 billion in new economic activity, supporting the creation of 10,200 new full-time jobs as businesses expand to meet increased consumer demand.
Advocates had been pushing New York to provide for automatic annual increases to the state’s minimum wage in future years to keep pace with the rising cost of living, a key reform known as “indexing” that 10 states have already successfully implemented, and that was contained in the minimum wage increase passed by the State Assembly last week. However, Senate Republicans and the Independent Democratic Caucus insisted on dropping indexing, and delaying the increase to $9.00 until 2016. Under the reported agreement, New York’s minimum wage will increase to $8.00 in 2014, $8.75 in 2015, and $9.00 in $2016. New York’s tipped wage for food service workers will continue to be 69% of the full minimum wage, meaning that it will increase to $6.21 by 2016.
“Today, New York State takes an important step towards becoming a place where hard work leads to economic opportunity, not to poverty,” said Andrew Friedman, Executive Director of the Center for Popular Democracy.
"Raising the minimum wage not only helps 1.5 million low-wage New York workers, it also supports the creation of 10,000 badly-needed jobs throughout the state, providing a much-needed economic boost," said James Parrott, chief economist at the Fiscal Policy Institute.
When New York’s minimum wage increases to $8.00 on January 1, it will still be behind Washington State ($9.19), Oregon ($8.95), and Vermont ($8.60), all three of whose minimum wages are expected to increase on January 1st because these states are among the ten that “index” the minimum wage to adjust with inflation. Connecticut, Illinois and Nevada’s minimum wages are close behind at $8.25. Bills to increase the minimum wage are pending in about a dozen states, including Massachusetts ($11.00), Illinois ($10.00), Maryland ($10.00), and Connecticut ($9.75).
New York’s minimum wage boost also comes one month after Congress introduced the Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2013, which would raise the federal minimum wage from $7.25 to $10.10 by 2015 and index it to inflation. Nearly 140 House of Representative members and 28 Senators have already signed onto this legislation as co-sponsors. [See NELP fact sheet for key background and bill information].
Raising New York’s minimum wage also won support from leading business voices across the state, including New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Crain's New York Business – which editorialized strongly in support of raising the minimum wage, and pointed out that past predictions of slower growth or jobs moving across state lines in response to raising the minimum wage did not materialize. Hundreds of individual businesses and trade associations such as Costco, ABC Home, and the Greater New York Chamber of Commerce, also supported raising New York’s minimum wage.
New York’s minimum wage increase also comes at a time when the core of the U.S. economy is steadily shifting toward low-wage work. A recent report by the National Employment Law Project found that 58 percent of all jobs created in the post-recession recovery have been low-wage occupations. The growth of low-wage jobs in the U.S. has proceeded even as America’s workers have obtained better education and more skills: According to a report by the Center for Economic and Policy Research, while the share of Americans with college degrees nearly doubled over the past 30 years, the share of middle-class jobs in the U.S. actually shrunk by 2.8 percent.
The most rigorous economic research over the past 20 years shows that raising the minimum wage boosts worker pay without causing job losses – even in regions where the economy is weak or unemployment is high. Last month, leading economists surveyed by the University of Chicago agreed by a 3-to-1 margin that the benefits of raising and indexing the minimum wage outweigh the costs. A new study by the Center for Economic and Policy Research reviews the past two decades of research on the impact of minimum wage increases on employment and concludes that “the weight of the evidence points to little or no effect of minimum wage increases on job growth.”

Can Mark Schauer defeat Rick Snyder?
In
Michigan a pretty decent liberal is mounting a campaign to challenge
Rick Snyder; but Mark Schauer is doomed to defeat because of his own
Democratic Party.
And here is why:
I doubt Schauer has a chance. I doubt the Democrats will give him any more support than they gave Virg Bernero. The corporate money which controls, dominates and manipulates the Democratic Party doesn't want to hear any talk about the plight of working people.
I traveled all over Michigan during the last gubernatorial election... I drove mile after mile without even seeing a yard sign for Virg Bernero which means there was an intent not to provide him with full Democratic Party support.
We used to see the same kind of Democratic Party campaigns "against" Gerald R. Ford during the many years he was in Congress.
Business interests make a "compact," in spite of political parties, that they will enable the best candidate for business to win while providing a show, a circus of sorts, with token opposition to make it appear there is a functioning democracy when in fact their isn't.
We are at a point where the only way change will come about is when people build some kind of anti-monopoly coalition capable of giving birth to a working class based anti-monopoly progressive people's party.
Decent liberals like Mark Schauer and Virg Bernero are going to have to be won over to this kind of position to become part of an anti-monopoly movement.
Personally, I wouldn't support anyone running as a Democrat. My time and resources are better spent in building movements for real reforms working in a way that will bring people to the conclusion that our lives, our livelihoods, our future and quite possibly our very existence requires successfully challenging Wall Street for political and economic power.

I responded to a discussion taking place about how democracy is the victim of AIPAC's bribing U.S. politicians and perverting dialog, discussion and debate.
It isn't only on this issue of Israel and Palestine that dialog, discussion and debate is being stifled but it is around this issue that the methods of stifling democracy seem to be getting honed with a much more intense kind of McCarthyism.
The only anti-dote is that we who are for peace, equality, social and economic justice become more engaged and outspoken.
There really hasn't been what could be described as a healthy democracy in this country since Franklin D. Roosevelt died.
This "lesser evilism" used to elect Harry "Atom Bomber" Truman, one of the most evil monsters to ever walk the face of the earth, instead of Henry Wallace is also a major part of the problem and we see this brought to new levels today in the way the supporters of Obama and Hillary Clinton are trying to stifle and thwart democracy to prevent the voices of the people from being heard.
In 2008, when I posted as an elected member of the Minnesota Democratic Party's State Central Committee that all funding for the "Israeli killing machine must cease" in response to the Gaza pogrom; a sitting judge here in Minnesota responded, on the DFL listserve, and I quote, "You must be fucking an Arab bitch."
Obviously such an incredibly racist statement coming from a judge from whom one expects a standard of racial fairness, was intended, not so much to intimidate me since these people know I can't be intimidated, to silence others; no one wants to be talked to like this from a person in such a position of authority from whom one expects tolerance and fairness.
A couple years later, the Minnesota Democratic Farmer-Labor Party's Progressive Caucus unanimously voted for a resolution calling on all Minnesota public institutions to divest from Israel. Again, the State Chair of the Minnesota DFL, Brian Melendez--- a die-hard Zionist--- stepped in and instructed the Progressive Caucus to rescind its resolution or loose standing as an official DFL caucus. Without consulting the rest of us, the Chair, a party hack named Steve Linnerooth, arbitrarily "rescinded" the resolution so it would not be brought before the MN DFL State Convention.
I could go on and on with other examples, including the extreme measures that were taken to remove me from the MN DFL's State Central Committee but I think many other people have similar examples of how democracy is being thwarted and stymied in the most disgusting and malicious manners.
It is rather ironic that we see the same supporters of the discriminatory and murderous genocidal policies of Israel now coming to the defense of these fascists in the Ukraine who are goose-stepping in the footprints of Hitler espousing the same kind of anti-Semitism as they shut down elections and opposition parties, loot and burn the homes of opposing politicians and ransack the offices of opposing parties and organizations--- all organized and coordinated by those working for Obama, a "constitutional attorney" who has violated Article I of the United Nation's Charter in calling for sanctions against Russia because the people of the Crimea voted to become part of Russia.
It is okay and approved by the ruling Wall Street imperialist circles in this country for South Sudan to secede from Sudan through a questionable election and a bloody civil war but it becomes inappropriate for the people of Crimea to become part of Russia in a peaceful manner to escape being drawn into this fascist violence and the civil war now certain to take place in the Ukraine as anti-fascist Ukrainians, whom we are not supposed to know exist, stand up to bring these fascists down--- are we seeing a repeat of the events that led to World War II with the anti-fascists attempting to fight off the fascists in Spain? In my opinion, this is exactly what we are witnessing before our very eyes.
The United States government has been coddling and training fascists to take over in country after country ever since the end of World War II. Nazi war criminals were provided with fake new identities by Nazi sympathizers working for the OSS and CIA; ilk like Herbert Romerstein who went from giving these fascist bastards new identities to live amongst us and he was then hired to "investigate" Communist activity in the labor, peace and civil rights movements until today this two-bit, half-assed fascist bastard has gone to work for the billionaire "philanthropist" Richard Mellon-Scaife who funds every right-wing organization from the KKK, John Birch Society, Accuracy In Media to this sinister outfit called KeyWiki which has set for itself, under the tutelage of Herbert Romerstein to fabricate a vast international Communist conspiracy sweeping in anyone and everyone tagged with the labels of liberal, socialist and Communist.
"It can't happen here;" better think again.
It is happening right here; fascism has once again raised its ugly head in a very big way--- not in Spain but in the Ukraine... supported fully by Wall Street's Military-Industrial Complex. But wasn't it this same class of bankers, industrialists and financiers who bankrolled Hitler to power?
Maybe its time to organize some study and discussion groups around William Shirer's "The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich" and Georgi Dimitrov's "United Front Against War and Fascism."
Perhaps right now we are seeing the actual end of the "Cold War" and the beginning of another world war--- World War III?
The Obama administration has struck the match in a world living atop a powder keg... the problem is, the "powder keg" consists of two huge nuclear arsenals.
I think it is very dangerous for those of us in the peace movement to be siding with the fascists in the Ukraine posing as a "popular uprising" or the imperialist Russian government comprised of a bunch of mobsters; we certainly shouldn't be supporting the Wall Street government of Barack Obama... we should be looking for allies among the anti-fascist and anti-imperialist movements in these other countries--- especially in the Ukraine, Russia and Crimea... people who understand fascism and war provide no answers to the serious problems humanity faces together--- from hunger, poverty and global warming and climate change to homelessness and unemployment and lack of health care. Wars will never solve these problems... only peace will.
Wall Street has been running our country for well over one-hundred years with war after war, growing poverty and human suffering... now is the time to create a huge anti-monopoly coalition of some kind to challenge Wall Street for political and economic power--- we certainly don't want to be making such a challenge "living" in the ruins of World War III.
Minnesota's socialist Governor, Elmer Benson, warned that if Hitler wasn't defeated in Spain his fascist hordes would run roughshod over Europe; Benson was right.
The fascists who have come to power in the Ukraine must correctly identified as such, and they must be defeated not given support as the Obama Administration is doing.
Sanctions against Russia as being advocated by Obama are an act of war in complete violation of international law and the United Nation's Charter.

Tony Benn: A titan of our movement
Mar
2014
2014
Monday 17th
posted by Morning Star in Features
JEREMY CORBYN fondly remembers his fellow rebel
MP and close friend Tony Benn - including their late-night escapade to
put up a commemorative plaque to Emily Wilding Davison in a
parliamentary broom cupboard
Tony was an MP for 50 years, with only a very short break between a sad defeat in Bristol East in 1983 and his election to Parliament as MP for Chesterfield nine months later.
His contribution to Parliament was magnificent in every way. He saw it as an institution to be revered and supported, but which he wanted to make more effective.
He was a real democrat who understood the broad sweep of history and how today's parliamentary democracy is a product of the Peasants' Revolt, the English civil war, the Great Reform Act of 1832, the Chartists and the radical movements of the 19th and 20th centuries.
Tony was a minister in the 1964-70 and 1974-79 Labour governments. A far-thinking postmaster general, he went on to become minister of technology.
He recognised Britain's need to develop high-quality cutting-edge engineering as the way forward, and through his personal intervention he saved the Concorde project from cancellation in 1974.
As minister for industry in the second Wilson government, Tony developed the lessons of the Upper Clyde Shipbuilders' work in 1971 as a way of defending industry from the predators who only saw assets to be stripped.
As secretary of state he steered through the public ownership of shipbuilding and aircraft manufacture, supported the Triumph Co-operative at Meriden and spoke at enormous Institute for Workers' Control conferences.
I worked at the Engineering Union in the early 1970s and Tony came to our offices to seek support for his industrial strategy because he felt he was being obstructed by the dead hand of officialdom in Whitehall.
He encouraged us to produce a blueprint for workers' control of British Leyland. Sadly he was moved on from his ministerial position before this bold move could take place.
Some of those who vigorously opposed Tony in the 1980s have surfaced again in the aftermath of his death, and are retrospectively trying to blame him for Labour's 1983 election defeat.
Yet the manifesto on which that election was fought would be highly appropriate today to deal with the finance and banking crisis that has been visited upon the poorest people in Britain and, indeed, across Europe.
The real reason for Labour's 1983 defeat was the defection of a number of leading figures in the Labour Party to the SDP, allowing Thatcher to be re-elected on the same vote as she had achieved in 1979 while calling it a triumph.
When the miners' strike took place in 1984-5 it coincided with Benn's election campaign in Chesterfield - and what a pleasure it was to campaign with him there, where he was elected and subsequently re-elected.
The miners' strike in many ways saw Tony at his finest, tirelessly travelling the country supporting picket lines and the Women Against Pit Closures, managing to unite inner-city struggles with the mining communities and always bringing a strength of internationalism into all of his speeches, regardless of the fact that it might be at 5am on a freezing picket line with an enormous menacing police presence threatening the miners and their families.
Tony, apart from being a great writer of diaries and a highly optimistic political philosopher, was fascinated by discussions and ordinary people's stories.
For a time in the late 1980s we held meetings of the Independent Left Corresponding Society, so named in memory of the radical correspondence societies during the dark days for radicals in Britain in the early part of the 19th century.
These meetings which included such luminaries as Ralph Miliband, Jim Mortimer, Tariq Ali and Hilary Wainwright, took themes for discussion about party structures, the development of democracy and the effectiveness or otherwise of trade unions. In many ways this was my university education.
Tony never shied away from supporting equality, anti-racism and causes that didn't get much attention from the media or the political Establishment.
He supported the black community in Bristol when they boycotted the buses in 1959 because of the racism in the recruitment of drivers and conductors. He wanted to negotiate and talk with Sinn Fein when it was being isolated and ostracised.
Before the outbreak of the Gulf war in 1991 he went to Baghdad with Edward Heath to try to obtain some kind of agreement, and memorably said when the war started that George Bush Snr had declared himself at war with humanity.
Tony later was hugely active in the foundation of the Stop the War Coalition in 2001 and was president at the time of his death. He had been an inspirational figure at every rally, particularly the million-plus rally in Hyde Park on February 15 2003. Right up to the end Tony was supporting and speaking at peace events.
An imaginative thinker, he founded the Coalition of Resistance as a way of uniting people in opposition to the austerity programme being promoted by George Osborne and David Cameron whose method of restructuring society remains to increase inequality and to concentrate wealth in the hands of the minority.
I have so many personal memories of Tony. I first met him in the late 1960s as a young activist and it's been a privilege and honour to work with him on so many causes for so long.
My memories include little vignettes of life such as, at a moment of enormous tension in Brighton as Tony was about to lose the deputy leadership of the Labour Party election, he was frustrated that he couldn't get a cup of tea because the kettle wouldn't work. I suggested that this should not have been a problem for him as a former technology minster, at which he smiled.
Later, when my eldest son Ben was just a few months old, I brought him into Parliament, and he sat on Fenner Brockway's knee in the parliamentary cafeteria while Tony fed him and talked to him, both of them oblivious to what was going on around them as they concentrated on each other.
Tony had a great sense of history and wanted Parliament to commemorate those who had made a difference, including Emily Wilding Davison and her census-night sojourn in the broom cupboard under Westminster Hall.
I had the pleasure of helping Tony put the plaque up late one evening after the house had finished its business for the day.
We went to Tony's car and collected the plaque and an electric drill and as we made our way via the crypt a policeman approached us.
I thought the game was up and we'd be asked about the drill and electric tool box, late at night.
While I was trying to dream up the appropriate explanation to offer, the policeman approached and simply offered to carry our bags for us.
Tony told him that we were on our way to the chapel, at which point the policeman offered to escort us but Tony insisted on privacy.
On another occasion we went to Belfast to observe a "supergrass" trial, where the juries did not exist and the judge made a decision on the basis of evidence given from an informer who in return was given anonymity, a change of identity and a very large sum of money to start a new life.
When we arrived we went and queued up with other families to go into the public gallery and the court master saw us and said he'd find a space for us in the well of the court.
Rather undiplomatically he explained that in the public gallery one couldn't see or hear anything because the glass screen was scratched and there was a very poor PA system.
When we reached the well of the court, to the chagrin of our host, there were no seats available until the empty 12 seats in the jury box were spotted and we duly sat in them.
The barrister for the defence spotted an opportunity and announced to the judge that he was surprised at how small the new jury was but that he was happy to accept its wisdom.
Tony leaves behind the books and wonderful diaries he wrote and the enormous admiration and the friendship of millions of people.
He died with his family around him and while it is desperately sad for all of the family, his children Hilary, Stephen Melissa and Josh, he also leaves behind a wider family who he loved and adored.
At a Stop the War conference in the Emmanuelle Centre late last year, he was treated with overwhelming warmth and reverence by the international gathering.
He realised his legacy is a belief in people, progress and our abilities to shape our own lives, not leave it to the powerful and the wealthy.
Thanks, Tony, for everything that you did and the path that your writings will continue to show about how to bring about change. It was been one of the great privileges of my life to have known you so well and worked with you on so many causes.

Is U.S. Congressman Rick M. Nolan a "liberal" or "progressive" as some Democratic Party hacks would have us believe?
Some die-hard Democrats have challenged me to "prove" my assertion that Congressman Rick Nolan is supporting the K-XL Pipeline.
I'm going to provide this proof but not until you listen to a little more of what I have to say about this phony.
In fact, Nolan supports the peat mining in the Big Bog.
In fact, Nolan is pushing for sulfide mining in northern Minnesota.
In fact, Nolan is pushing for Iron Ore mining in the Penokee Hills of northern Wisconsin.
Kind of interesting, but the upper-middle class, muddle-headed "environmentalists" with the Minnesota Environmental Partnership and all the tribal governments and the Minnesota Indian Gaming Association support Rick Nolan.
Also interesting is how Nolan turns around and supports crooked and corrupt creeps heading up tribal governments like Floyd "Buck" Jourdain, Carri Jones and the wife-beater Kevin Leecy who goes to testify before government committees about how money is needed to fund education for spousal abuse.
But, the real hypocrisy of Nolan is demonstrated by his support for the violent and corrupt thug who terrorized the entire Leech Lake Indian Nation for years which includes sodomizing one of his opponents with a broom handle and beating with his fists on another opponent for over two hours.
Every election cycle, Minnesota Democrats like Rick Nolan go begging for money to these thoroughly corrupt tribal leaders and then when the election is over, Nolan turns his back on the victims of poverty.
Here is the letter Nolan sent to a constituent. Anyone may contact Nolan's office to verify the authenticity of this letter from him... and, I expect to read an apology here from those supporters of these Dumb Donkeys like Nolan who wrote and called me a liar:

Dear Ms. Ward.
Thank you for contacting me regarding your views on the Keystone Pipeline.
The Keystone Pipeline is a good and necessary project that will generate urgently needed jobs and economic development across our great nation.
I support the Keystone Pipeline, but I could not support the extreme Keystone bill (H.R.3. the Northern Route Approval Act) the House passed just prior to Memorial Day.
A privately-financed pipeline, properly maintained and regulated in an environmentally safe way, using today's highly advanced technologies. is the best solution. And I believe that approach will ultimately prevail.
As I told the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, the Northern Route Approval Act goes too far in exempting a non U.S.-based corporation from the regular construction, environmental, and health regulatory process we normally require of every single other pipeline we build in this country. Rest assured there are places in the permitting process that could be streamlined, but we should not exempt any
corporation, foreign or domestic, from being held financially liable in the event of a spill.
I do believe we can move this project forward in a responsible way, but not at the abandonment of everything that
protects our health, our safety, and our environment.
Fortunately, the bill is unlikely to pass the Senate. If it does, the President has promised a veto.
Thank you again for sharing your views with me. I appreciate your advice and counsel and hope that you will contact me in the future whenever I can be of assistance.

Laura Friedenbach the Press Secretary for the foundation-funded Bold Progressives fronting for the Democrats and the National Indian Gaming Association wants you to know...
That Kelly Westlund wants to keep you working for poverty wages.
This is the e-mail I received from Laura Friedenbach, the Press Secretary for the foundation-funded Bold Progressives.
Laura didn't explain why Kelly Westlund is taking campaign contributions from the National Indian Gaming Association and the thoroughly corrupt Mike Wiggins, Jr. who refuses to put up "No Smoking" signs at the Bad River Casino.
Kelly Weslund says she supports the Minimum Wage being $10.10 an hour. This is one more poverty wage; it is not a real living wage that takes into consideration "cost-of-living."
See my blog post Laura Friedenbach is responding to:
http://thepodunkblog.blogspot.com/2014/03/kelly-westlunds-congressional-campaign.html
Hey Alan -- Kelly Westlund has been outspoken about her support for raising the minimum wage. Last month she went directly to Sean Duffy's offices in Superior and Wausau to demand he give Americans a raise. Think you can make that fact clear for your readers? You can check out some of the news coverage below.
Best,
Laura

My advice to Laura and Kelly:
Try living on $10.10 and see what it is like.
Kelly Westlund's Congressional campaign is being funded by Mike Wiggins, Jr. and the National and Regional Indian Gaming Associations
Why was my comment removed from this website:
http://unitedindefenseofthewater.com/lake-superior-basin-says-no-mine/
Mike Wiggins, Jr. is the biggest hypocrite. He operates a loud, noisy, smoke-filled casino that is ruining the health and lives of the workers he impoverishes.
The workers employed in the Bad River Casino have NO rights under state or federal labor laws--- does anyone call this being respectful of human rights?
Mike Wiggins, Jr. hides his real motives for opposing this hideous mine project that will tear apart the Penokees behind very legitimate reasons for opposition; however, his only motivation is to keep wages down because his casino operation requires a huge pool of cheap labor as casino workers are fired left and right for no other reason than they are getting to sick to work from working in this smoke-filled casino.
If Mike Wiggins, Jr. really respected human rights and a liveable environment he would:
1. Put up "No Smoking" signs in the Bad River Casino; and,
2. Sit down and negotiate a union contract that would protect the rights, lives and livelihood of casino workers.
Kelly Westlund talks about jobs; but, like other Democrats, she refuses to talk about real living wage jobs.
Kelly Westlund's campaign for Congress is being financed by Mike Wiggins, Jr. and the Indian Gaming Industry.
If you notice, Kelly Westlund does not utter a peep about the horrendous unhealthy working conditions casino workers are forced to endure nor does she utter a peep of protest about the poverty wages paid to casino workers in this Indian Gaming Industry which is far more profitable than any iron ore mining operation.
The mainstream media refuses to address these issues of the Indian Gaming Industry as do the public and alternative media.
Nick Vanderpuy, Mike Wiggins, Jr.'s buddy, interviewed me for hours about the plight of casino workers and the tape ended up in the hands of one of the union busting outfit hired by the National Indian Gaming Association, Altegrity/USIS--- so much for concern about human rights. Just how did Altegrity/USIS "Special Agent" George Armstrong get his hands on this interview which never aired?
Kelly Westlund and the Democrats point to industries providing jobs that are an alternative to mining and yet she and Mike Wiggins, Jr. and the Democrats the Indian Gaming Association money buys can only point to a bunch of poverty wage jobs with unhealthy working conditions. There are no efforts made to make these jobs real living wage jobs in healthy working environments.
Just a bunch of hypocrites--- and this gaggle of upper-middle class muddle-headed intellectuals posing as "environmentalists" couldn't give two-hoots about workers forced to work in smoke-filled casinos.
Why didn't the Associated Press' Todd Richmond ask Mike Wiggins, Jr. about the unhealthy smoke-filled Bad River Casino workers are forced to work in and the fact all of these workers are employed at poverty wages and without any rights under state, federal, tribal or international labor laws in complete violation of the United Nations' Universal Declaration of Human Rights?
And; oh, yes; these "environmentalists" will claim they can only handle one issue at a time but they don't explain why they tolerated these deplorable working conditions in Mike Wiggins, Jr.'s Bad River Casino for so many years before this mining issue came along?
Mike Wiggins, Jr. conceals the fact that every single slot machine and table game in the Bad River Casino are owned by a bunch of racist, rich mobsters who rake in the profits skimming the cream off the top leaving the people of the Bad River Tribe mired in poverty causing debt from which they will never escape.

"At-will Employment" has to go.
There
was a good forum yesterday bringing together candidates running for the
positions of Secretary-Treasurer and District 1 Representative of the
Leech Lake Business Organization (the Tribal Council--- LLBO).
One of the main issues to surface was the reactionary "At-will Employment" policy now part of the LLBO laws.
People want this anti-worker policy rescinded, and to be replaced by a "Just Employment" policy.
Based on comments from people and responses from the candidates it looks like this very reactionary employment policy may be coming to an end with very progressive employment policy put in its place.
LLBO just enacted the highest Minimum Wage in the United States--- $10.25 an hour.
Previously the LLBO voted to support the enforcement of Affirmative Action.
Progressives across Minnesota and the United States would be wise to follow these examples of REAL CHANGE. Real Change resulting from grassroots activists and working people speaking their minds.
All of this real change on the Leech Lake Indian Reservation was initiated by grassroots activists forcing tribal elected politicians, many every bit as bad and corrupt as state and federal politicians, to act. Of course these corrupt politicians are facing direct opposition from grassroots activists turned politicians, too.
There is a lesson for all of us to learn here.
It would be nice to eliminate the influence of corrupt money from politics but as can be learned from the grassroots activities of the people of the Leech Lake Indian Nation we can't wait for the influence of corruption resulting from big-money to end.
There is a reason why the mainstream media is not reporting on the political developments taking place in the Leech Lake Indian Nation--- they don't want others to learn how to educate, organize and mobilize for real change.
Pass this post around; let your friends know "people can fight city hall and win" through struggle.

Progressive Democrats of America makes excuses for Obama's imperialist wars.
Okay, PDA (Progressive Democrats of America) [see letter from PDA below]... So the Ukraine is on your mind, eh?
But here is the problem: Obama and Kerry, both reactionary neo-liberals, are every bit as reactionary as those "neo-cons" you want them to fire.
Obama and Kerry are carrying out Wall Street's thoroughly reactionary agenda in the Ukraine.
Is this article from the Guardian accurate as to Russian and U.S. objectives in the Ukraine?
http://www.theguardian.com/ environment/earth-insight/ 2014/mar/06/ukraine-crisis- great-power-oil-gas-rivals- pipelines
PDA members, prior to PDA being organized, supported Obama, not once, not twice, not three times, not four times but not five times before they organized PDA and three more times in running for public office--- twice for president; and, obviously, PDA still supports Obama.

PDA members, prior to PDA being organized, supported Obama, not once, not twice, not three times, not four times but not five times before they organized PDA and three more times in running for public office--- twice for president; and, obviously, PDA still supports Obama.
PDA needs to dissolve itself; your "strategy" hasn't worked.
Progressives here in the United States need a new working class based progressive people's party that is anti-monopoly, anti-imperialist and anti-capitalist with the objective of challenging Wall Street for political and economic power.
Certainly PDA must be looking at Minnesota with its "bait-and-switch" super-majority which has delivered absolutely nothing for working people.
PDA does not have one single success in convincing Obama to do anything... not while he served as a U.S. Senator, not since Obama has been President.
What does PDA want from Obama when he fires these "neo-cons;" John Kerry neo-liberal clones?
Let's get something straight: "Neo-conservatives" did not "hi-jack" U.S. foreign policy. The United States government's foreign policy has been dominated by Wall Street's imperialist agenda beginning with the Spanish-American War and it has never deviated from this imperialist agenda.

Wars and Occupations are part of this Wall Street imperialist agenda.
Mark Twain was a founder and leader of the American Anti-imperialist League.
Is it too much to expect from members of PDA that you speak in terms of imperialism when it comes to the Ukraine and all of these other dirty imperialist wars?
These wars aren't about Obama and Kerry versus the "neo-conservatives." These wars are about neo-liberals and neo-conservatives carrying out Wall Street's imperialist agenda.
Both the United States and Russia are imperialist countries with capitalist economies where state monopoly capitalism is dominant. One could argue the United States undermined the socialist Soviet government and imposed, through imperialist CIA intrigue, capitalism on Russia and the Ukraine and the rest of what used to be to "Eastern European" countries.
Raisa Gorbachev all but admitted, in her book--- "I Hope"--- that both she and her husband Mikhail Gorbachev were tools of the West as they were flown around by Forbes in their jet, "Capitalist Tool."
Guess what, PDA?
You helped create a seamless transition from one imperialist government headed by Bush to another imperialist government headed up by Barack Obama who has turned out to be as bad or worse than George Bush.
You helped create a seamless transition from one imperialist government headed by Bush to another imperialist government headed up by Barack Obama who has turned out to be as bad or worse than George Bush.
You send me this letter asking me to join you in asking Barack Obama and John Kerry to fire two "neo-cons" but you don't invite me to join a struggle against imperialism... do you, or don't you, understand that we are dealing with Wall Street 's imperialist agenda? And replacing two "neo-con" imperialists with two more neo-liberal imperialists has no impact on Wall Street's imperialist agenda being carried out by Barack Obama?
Is there "Peace!" should these two "neo-cons" be fired?
Was there "Peace!" when Obama shuffled the generals?
Where is the "Peace!" from Obama's murderous drone warfare.
Goddamn!
Where is the logic in supporting imperialists like Obama for any public office and then insisting he fire a couple imperialist war-mongers that he kept on instead of firing and replacing them with two-more imperialist warmongers to carry out U.S. foreign policy which will remain an imperialist foreign policy of dirty imperialist war after dirty imperialist war just as Wall Street orders?

Shouldn't progressives be insisting no U.S. involvement in the Ukraine because we already did enough damage in restoring capitalism in Russia and the Ukraine?
Shouldn't U.S. progressives be joining with the anti-imperialist movements in Russia and the Ukraine in preventing this situation from erupting into one more dirty imperialist war where working people will fight and die and two countries more than twice ravaged by wars will suffer huge destruction?

Peace! Yes... Peace! through anti-imperialist unity, not shuffling around imperialist warmongers appointed by an imperialist President working for Wall Street--- our enemy.
We need public ownership of the entire energy industry.
We need a Peace Dividend to create jobs putting people to work delivering free health care and free child care through National Public Health Care and Child Care Systems--- publicly funded, publicly administered and publicly delivered... just like public education. These dirty imperialist wars of Wall Street's Military-Industrial Complex are depriving the American people of these kinds of needed universal social programs while making us all poor as the Military-Industrial Complex is the major contributor to global warming and climate change.
Fund jobs not imperialist wars. We need to bring back the WPA, CCC and C.E.T.A.

Tell Obama and Kerry: Fire the Neocons - Diplomacy Now!
Dear friend,
After the end of the Cold War, neoconservatives hijacked U.S. foreign policy to engineer the overthrow of independent and left-wing governments across the world, from Yugoslavia to the Middle East to Haiti and Honduras. After the US invasion and destruction of Iraq woke Americans to the danger and horror of these policies, we threw the neocons out at the ballot-box in 2006 and 2008. But guess what? They never left!
Remember the Project for the New American Century, which drew up the blueprint for the failed "war on terror" and the invasion of Iraq? PNAC was co-founded by Robert Kagan, who later became an adviser to Secretary of State Hilary Clinton and still works at the Brookings Institution.
Kagan's wife, Victoria Nuland, was a senior foreign policy adviser to Vice President Dick Cheney. President Obama rewarded her with positions as State Department Spokesperson and now Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs.
Victoria Nuland plotted with US Ambassador Geoffrey Pyatt to overthrow Ukraine's elected government and hand power to a group of oligarchs and the neo-Nazi Svoboda Party. They fomented street violence by Svoboda and Right Factor militias, who seized weapons from armories, fired on police and protesters, and executed a Russian journalist. Read transcript of intercepted recording of Nuland and Pyatt here. Now President Obama and Secretary Kerry are standing by Nuland's unelected junta and welcoming its leader to the White House, allowing the neocons to sabotage U.S.-Russian relations at a critical time for peace and diplomacy.
Please join PDA as we call for the resignation of Assistant Secretary of State Nuland and Ambassador Pyatt; for no further U.S. action to recognize or support the coup regime in Kiev; and for a diplomatic solution involving all parties to the crisis in the Ukraine. Click here to take action.
Thanks for telling the President to ditch his pet neocons before they wreck more countries and more people's lives around the world. Their elusive but relentless quest for unchallenged U.S. global power is not a blueprint for a new American century but a recipe for endless violence and chaos. Tell Obama, "We want peace - not more neocon chaos!"
Peace!
