Eugene V. Debs

Today is the birthday of Eugene V. Debs, one of the most prominent Americans to be excluded (or at least greatly minimized) in our nation's history textbooks. Debs was born in Terre Haute, Indiana (where his home is now a museum operated by the http://www.debsfoundation.org/ ). He was a lifelong champion of labor, independent politics, socialism, peace, and civil liberties:

In honor of his birthday, Haymarket Books is offering (today only) a 50% discount on Ray Ginger's The Bending Cross, perhaps the best of the many biographies of Debs. See:

I highly recommend this book. If you already have a copy it would make a great holiday gift for someone.

Eugene Debs paved the way for breaking free from Wall Street's two-party trap. Debs received almost one-million votes for president while sitting in prison for his outspoken opposition to World War I.
