Thursday Republican Controlled House Scheduled To Vote On Aid To Poor

By: Brian McAfee

September 19 the Republican controlled House of Representatives is scheduled to vote on a Farm Bill; part of which includes a $40 billion cut in the food stamp program.

Of those receiving government help in the form of food stamps or the SNAP program (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) 76% are children; disabled or elderly.

Many American workers who are receiving some food stamps are eligible because less than living wages are keeping them in poverty.

Republicans and right wing Democrats should be repeatedly asked: Why is the minimum wage set below the poverty line?

A livable wage or income; is that too much to ask for?
If so, who says so and why.

While the Right is attacking our most vulnerable people, who is it that they subsidize and help at every turn? Gas & coal companies, big banks, the war industries.
It has been shocking to see the extent of the reverse Robin Hood of the American Right together with the heartlessness of American Capitalism and many in the Tea Party and the Christian Right.

Those of us on the Left will always fight for the kids; the underdogs; for justice and peace.

We need many more people to join with us in this struggle.
